1 John 2:25–28 NASB95
25 This is the promise which He Himself made to us: eternal life. 26 These things I have written to you concerning those who are trying to deceive you. 27 As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him. 28 Now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He appears, we may have confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame at His coming.

Here in our text John “the beloved disciple” speaks of some powerful key topic such as,
Eternal life, deception, anointing from God, teaching, His appearance/His return, confidence, and of course abiding in Him.
As I read though this text I find that all these thing work together.
And there is one work that ties all the things together and that is abiding.
Charles Spurgeon says,
“My beloved hearers, you must be in living, loving, lasting union with the Son of God, or else you are not in a state of salvation.” Charles Spurgeon
He also adds,
He also adds,
“You must be in Christ as the stone is in the building, as the member is in the body.”
Eternal life, Jesus prays in and he revealed one of the greatest truth and uncovers a mystery.
What is eternal life? Jesus says,
John 17:3 NASB95
3 “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
(NASB95)
To know Him, relationally.
3 “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
To know Him, relationally.
Later in the same pray Jesus says,
John 17:21 NASB95
21 that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me.
(NASB95)
21 that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me.
John 17:22–24 NASB95
22 “The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; 23 I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me. 24 “Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.
(NASB95)
22 “The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one;
23 I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me.
24 “Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.
Eternal life is knowing God and abiding in the one that you know.
Jesus long for this. He wanted this.
He prayed for this when He says, “Father, I desire they be with me.”
The next key from our text that John refers to is deception.
Matthew 24:3 NASB95
3 As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”
"Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?"
So the first and most prevalent sign of the end time is deception.
Matthew 24:4 NASB95
4 And Jesus answered and said to them, “See to it that no one misleads you.
"Take heed that no one deceives you.”
"Take heed that no one deceives you.”
Many will come in my name.
Matthew 24:11 NASB95
11 “Many false prophets will arise and will mislead many.
Verse 11
Matthew 24:24 NASB95
24 “For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect.
Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many.
Matthew 24:25 NASB95
25 “Behold, I have told you in advance.
ma
For false Christ’s and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.
why? that you would not be deceived.
One of the greatest weapons of evil in the end time will be the weapon of deception.
Notice what John says the benefit of abiding is
1 John 2:26 NASB95
26 These things I have written to you concerning those who are trying to deceive you.
Verse 26
1 John 2:27 NASB95
27 As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him.
26 These things I have written to you concerning those who are trying to deceive you.
27 As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him.
He says there is a tool that God give to help us stand against the tool of the devil in the end.
the anointing which you received from Him abides in you.
What anointing. This is speaking about the gift of the Holy Spirit that must not be grieved.
Jesus says this about the Holy Spirit
John 16:13 NASB95
13 “But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.
(NASB95)
(NASB95)
13 “But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.
This Holy one is in you.
John 16:13 NASB95
13 “But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.
(NASB95)
John says,
13 “But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.
John says,
As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him.
There will be an inward witness that will rise up and say, “the devil is a lie. You don’t have to believe that report.”
“That’s a false teaching and religion, that’s a sin, that’s a anit-christ spirit.”
No man had to teach me that, the truth is rising up on the inside.
This anointing from God, this teaching keeps me from deception if I abide in him.
Then he says in verse 28
1 John 2:28 NASB95
28 Now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He appears, we may have confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame at His coming.
NOW ABIDE IN HIM… SO THAT
Now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He appears, we may have confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame at His coming.
NOW ABIDE IN HIM… SO THAT
Who does he call to abide?
LITTLE CHILDREN
John the beloved Disciple is faithful in reminding them to abide just His Lord commanded.
John 15:4–7 NASB95
4 “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. 5 “I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. 6 “If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned. 7 “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
(NASB95)
4 “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me.
5 “I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.
6 “If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned.
7 “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
Abide in me.
Sometime translated
Continue in, remain…
Little Children.. Remain.. Continue.
He urgues them to Abide
He addresses them as little children
He doing so he call them to humility and meekness
And he tell them the result of such is
when He appears, we may have confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame at His coming.
When he appears we wont be found sleeping.
We wont be found wasting.
In the parable in the question is raised in verse 8
Luke 18:8 NASB95
8 “I tell you that He will bring about justice for them quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?”
(NASB95)
8 “I tell you that He will bring about justice for them quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?”
when He return and He will return. Will there be those who have their see looking to the hill from where their Help come from.
Will there be those who are doing work till he returns
Or will they be wasting their life chasing ambition and the American dream.
Little Children, you sons and daughters. I argue you to Abide in him and do not be swept away by all manner of doctrines.
Don’t be like the 5 virgin who where foolish and did not take oil for their lamp
And where not ready when the bridegroom comes.
Holy spirit, anointed spirit of Christ, fill me.. abide in me.
Keep me away from false teaching and doctrine. Teach me.. keep me from deception. Show me the truth.
I am your child and I want to be filled with confidence in that hour when you return to us.
