1 John 2:7-11

New Old Command

The idea of loving another was not a new concept (Leviticus 19:18).

Sin changed the way people relate and distorted the idea of love.

Jesus is the new reference point for what love is (Romans 5:8).

Does what you claim line up with a life in the light?

Hatred

Following Jesus is not going to lead you to treat someone in a hateful way.

We can’t hate when we’re on the other side of what Jesus has done.

Living in hate is a directionless life that will bring you to stumble.

Walking in hate is holding on to what is fading away (vs8).

Love

Living in love is living in light because Jesus is light.

Living in love goes deeper than trying to follow a set of rules.

In love, we don’t stumble because life becomes clearer.

Our acts of love point to the greatest act of love.
