Zacchaeus
Luke
19:1-10
Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. A
man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a
chief tax collector and was wealthy.
Luke 19:1-2
He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was
short he could not see over the crowd. So he ran
ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him,
since Jesus was coming that way.
Luke 19:3-4
When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said
to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must
stay at your house today.” So he came down at once
and welcomed him gladly.
Luke 19:5-6
All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has
gone to be the guest of a sinner.”
Luke 18:23-25
But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look,
Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to
the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of
anything, I will pay back four times the amount.”
Luke 19:8
Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this
house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For
the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
Luke 19:9-10
Jesus replied, “What is impossible with people is
possible with God.”
Luke 18:27
He’s not just a tax collector.
He’s clearly heard of Jesus before.
and
He’s already living a pretty ethical life!
“What should we do then?” the crowd asked.
John answered, “Anyone who has two shirts should
share with the one who has none, and anyone who
has food should do the same.”
Luke 3:10-11
Even tax collectors came to be baptized. “Teacher,”
they asked, “what should we do?”
“Don’t collect any more than you are required to,” he
told them.
Luke 3:12-13
Then some soldiers asked him, “And what should we
do?”
He replied, “Don’t extort money and don’t accuse
people falsely—be content with your pay.”
Luke 3:14
“Here and now I give half of my possessions to the
poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I
will pay back four times the amount.”
Luke 19:8

house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham.”
Luke 19:9

cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four
times the amount.”
