A lesson from the pigs pin
A lesson from the pigs pin
Luke 15:11-17
Then He said, “A man had two sons. The younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of the property that falls to me.’ So he divided his estate between them.
“Not many days later, the younger son gathered everything together, and journeyed to a distant country, and there squandered his possessions in prodigal living. When he had spent everything, there came a severe famine in that country, and he began to be in want. So he went and hired himself to a citizen of that county, who sent him into his fields to feed swine. He would gladly have filled his stomach with the husks that the swine were eating, but no one gave him any.
Here we find a young man looking to spread his wings.
This was a strong young man
He was full of himself
He has all the answers
No one can tell him what to do
You have been there
I know I have been there
He really did feel like he was ready to leave his daddy’s house
He felt like he could make it on his own
Daddy did not know everything
Daddy’s rules were way outdated
And to be honest he was just tired of all the rules of daddy’s house
So he asks for his inheritance
His father went against what he really felt was best and gave his son his inheritance
But it did not make the son happy
He still was in his fathers house
Gone are the rules of his dad’s house
Still having to live in the shadow of big brother
Still having to follow daddy’s rules
Still having to live by the standards that daddy set
So the young man decides it is time to move to the big city where he can make a living on his own
But we know what happens
It is the same story we hear time and time again
This young man ends up losing it all
All his money gone
All his so called friends gone
All his hopes and dreams gone
So here we find this young man feeding the pigs
If you understand the Jewish culture you would understand that no self respecting Jewish man would ever have anything to do with pigs.
So here he is
Him asking and receiving his inheritance didn’t do it
Losing all his money in the big city didn’t do it
