What then shall we say that Abraham our father has found according to the flesh?
Just as the gospel is the message of God’s grace, the law has a message as well:
Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
Just as the gospel is the message of God’s grace, the law has a message as well: shut up - you’re guilty
shut up - you’re guilty
What then shall we say that Abraham our father has found according to the flesh?
For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God.
For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.”
Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt.
But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness,
Think about it: if our right standing before God is a reward for good behavior, then we’d get credit for earning it. However, we would have to concede that the flip-side is also true: we’d lose our right standing before God by bad behavior.
If righteousness is truly a gift by the grace of God, then Jesus, who actually purchased it for us with His own blood, would get the credit, and we can’t lose it even when we fail.
And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb.
For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.
For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.
Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more,
Rom 4:19

How Righteousness Is Obtained
We are who we are by birth, not by behavior.
When you were a sinner, no good deeds, nothing you did could change your status as a sinner.
Now that you are righteous, if your bad deeds can change your righteous status, that would mean that Adam’s transgression was greater that Jesus’ gift.
Questions
Whose sin made you a sinner? Adam
How many sins does it take to be a sinner? Zero – we were born that way.
Whose obedience made you righteous? Jesus
How many righteous acts does it take to become righteous? Zero – we were re-born that way.
We are righteous by the new birth, not by behavior.
Now, there is no comparison between Adam’s transgression and the gracious gift that we experience. For the magnitude of the gift far outweighs the crime. It’s true that many died because of one man’s transgression, but how much greater will God’s grace and his gracious gift of acceptance overflow to many because of what one Man, Jesus, the Messiah, did for us!
Rom 5:
For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.
Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more,

Notes
This unmerited favor that we have from God is extreme. It's excessive. It's over the top. It's radical. It's life altering. It is transformational.
For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.
New Testament

For the promise that he would be the heir of the world was not to Abraham or to his seed through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.
For if those who are of the law are heirs, faith is made void and the promise made of no effect,
Like Abraham, the promise of our inheritance in Christ is not obtained through obeying the “standards of perfect performance.” If we could climb the performance ladder and actually reach the top on our own, then what purpose is faith?
For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.

Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.
