1 Blessed is the man

who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,

nor stands in the way of sinners,

nor sits in the seat of scoffers;

2  but his delight is in the law of the Lord,

and on his law he meditates day and night.

–2.1:1-2 Blessed is the man who does and who does not:

Does not walk in the counsel of the wicked.

Does not stand in the way of sinners.

Does not sit in the seat of scoffers.

Instead, in isolation from all of these evil influences he:

Delights in the Law of God.

Meditates on God’s Law day and night.

He is rejoicing in his isolation from society

1 Blessed is the man

who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,

nor stands in the way of sinners,

nor sits in the seat of scoffers;

2  but his delight is in the law of the LORD,

and on his law he meditates day and night.

This person avoids fellowship with those opposed to God and his Law. Instead, he spends much of his time alone meditating and studying God’s Word. His delight is not engaging in the pleasures that this world, but in the pleasures of God’s Word. Isolation, being alone, is not boring but blissful. It is his delight. Isolation gives him the ability to tune out the distractions of the world and to have sweet fellowship with God through the reading, studying, and meditating on his word. His pleasure is not found in this world’s treasures but in the treasures that he finds as he digs deeper into God’s Word.

He does not seek wisdom or answers from the wisdom of this world. He does not look to pop psychology or political ideologies but he looks to God’s Word. This man has a Biblical Worldview.

The wicked counsel is not necessarily referring to all out wickedness. But counsel that is derived from the depraved minds of unregenerate men. Think Oprah and Dr. Phil. It is worldly wisdom that is opposed to God’s Wisdom. When we embrace godless ideology like Social Justice, Critical Race Theory, Intersectionality, our lives are now influenced by its teachings and we begin to practice and walk in them. This downward spiral will eventually lead us to being opposed to a Biblical Worldview and we will even begin to mock God’s Law.

We have seen the downward spiral of men who over the years have walked in the counsel of liberalism and worldly wisdom and have come to the place where they now mock God’s Word. is absolutely absurd to their warped thinking and they now mock men like John MacArthur who is only preaching what faithful pastors for the past 2000 years have been preaching. Sadly, many leaders who ordain women pastors aren’t even aware that they have taken their seat among the scoffers. When we depart from God’s Word and embrace the ungodly counsel of this world, we eventually become mockers of God’s Word.

Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying, “Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.” He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision. Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying, “As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill.” I will tell of the decree: The Lord said to me, “You are my Son; today I have begotten you. Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.” Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
