Introduces the Reason, the Method and the Purpose for Writing His Gospel and Acts.

Luke writes his gospel to place his stamp on history.

Luke writes his gospel to place his stamp on the historical validity of the Christian faith.
Luke uses both a historical and theological method.
Luke writes so that we know the exact truth about our faith.

Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile an account of the things accomplished among us, just as they were handed down to us by those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and servants of the word,
Inas much as: reveals Luke’s reason and justification for writing the two volume history we Luke and Acts.
He is using a literary device to refer to his predecessors. Luke is not writing something new; Luke is standing on the shoulders of other historians and theologians.

Luke’s Method is Both Historical and Theological.

His Method is nether fantasy nor opinion. Luke basis his historical narrative on fact. The facts of eye witness accounts for the life of Jesus while reaching back beyond recent events to OT History.
Luke’s gospel must be interpreted in the context of God’s salvation history, which have been outlined by Moses and the prophets. Luke records the fulfillment of OT Scripture.
The Consecutive order does not mean he writes in chronological order. Luke uses a coherent sequential arrangement so the reader understand. Throught teh use of narrative so that the narrative displays the major themes and can understand the major themes and patterns
