“IF YOU ACTIONS INSPIRE OTHERS TO DREAM MORE, LEARN MORE, DO MORE AND BECOME MORE, YOU ARE A LEADER” - JOHN QUICY ADAMS
“IF YOU ACTIONS INSPIRE OTHERS TO DREAM MORE, LEARN MORE, DO MORE AND BECOME MORE, YOU ARE A LEADER” - JOHN QUICY ADAMS
1) LEADERS MUST HAVE THE ABILITY TO SHOW THEY CARE FOR PEOPLE.
A. Great leaders have the ability to show concern for people’s deepest needs and interests.
B. That doesn’t mean great leaders are mushy or patronizing or belittling, but when you are around them, you sense their interest and care and leave them feeling that you are important.
“Jesus was going through all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness. Seeing the people, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep with- out a shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore, beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.”
C. The four things Jesus did in this passage that made him a likable leader.
i. Jesus went
ii. Jesus saw
iii. Jesus felt
iv. Jesus cared
2) LEADER MUST HAVE THE ABILITY TO REACH OUT AND HELP PEOPLE.
A. Our business as leaders is people. We have to have a heart of a servant because if we don’t we will not care for people properly. If people do not like you it will be hard for you to impact them and serve them well.
i. An offended friend is harder to win back than a fortified city. Arguments separate friends like a gate locked with bars. NLT
B. Leaders are out to see others profit; they have the gift of grace.
C. In fact, the Greek word for gift is “charisma,” meaning “gift of grace.”
D. We are going to face people that have problems and when we do we must do three things:
i. Encourage them to face their problems.
ii. Encourage them to solve their problems.
iii. let them know that you will be with them every step of the way if they commit to these things. And when you say this actually do it.
3) LEADERS MUST HAVE THE ABILITY TO MAKE THINGS HAPPEN.
A. Leaders have to make things happen on a consistent basis. If you’re not making things happen most likely you’re not leading someone else is and your just following them as they make things happen for you.
B. When evangelist John Wesley was asked why people seemed to be drawn to him, he answered, “Well, you see, when you set yourself on fire, people just love to come and see you burn.”
C. “innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower” – Steve Jobs.
4) LEADERS MUST HAVE THE ABILITY TO PRODUCE RESULTS.
A. There’s a difference with producing results and being busy. There are a lot of leaders that are busy ,but when you evaluate what they’re doing what exactly are they producing.
B. Leader should be producing results, if what you are doing isn’t producing results you may have to stop what you are doing.
C. Some leaders are satisfied with busyness, great leader want to make an impact.
D. Not only do they want to make an impact they want others to make an impact.
E. How does a person become productive? Find your strength and then find someone who needs your strength. Charismatic people use their strengths to help other people feel good about themselves; they are other-centered. The person who is self-centered uses his strength to dominate others.
5) LEADERS MUST BE ABLE TO INFLUENCE.
A. If you don’t have influence with people you not leading. If you can’t move people from point A to point B effectively then you need to grow as a leader.
B. How do you increase your influence? ( 21 irrefutable laws of leadership John C. Maxwell.)
i. Character – Who They Are “True leadership always begins with the inner person.”3
ii. Relationships – Who They Know “Build the right kinds of relationships with the right people, and you can become the real leader in an organization.”4
iii. Knowledge – What They Know “Whenever I was new to an organization, I always spent a lot of time doing homework before I tried to take the lead.”5
iv. Intuition – What They Feel “Leaders seek to recognize and influence intangibles such as energy, morale, timing, and momentum.”6
v. Experience – Where They’ve Been “The greater challenges you’ve faced as a leader in the past, the more likely followers are to give you a chance in the present.”7
vi. Past Success – What They’ve Done “Every time I extended myself, took a risk, and succeeded, followers had another reason to trust my leadership ability – and to listen to what I had to say.”8
vii. Ability – What They Can Do “The bottom line for followers is what a leader is capable of. They want to know whether that person can lead the team to victory.”9
6) LEADERS MUST HAVE THE ABILITY TO GIVE HOPE.
A. Leaders that motivate people are leaders that know how to give hope.
B. Learn affirmation skills, problem-solving techniques, ways to verbally encourage others, and convey belief and support in others.
C. Do not tell someone that you don’t believe in them, this is probably one of the most crushing statements someone can ever tell someone.
7) LEADERS MUST HAVE THE ABILITY TO AFFIRM PEOPLE.
A. We tend to become what the most important person in our life thinks we will become.
B. Think the best, believe the best, and express the best in others. Your affirmation will not only make you more attractive to people, but you
C. will help play an important part in their personal development.

Roadblocks to being an effective leader.

1) PRIDE - A prideful person will have a tendency to look down on other people, feeling a sense of superiority. People will not follow or identify with a snobbish personality who is conscious of status and position.
2) INSECURITY. Insecure people are not willing to take a risk. They prefer to remain comfortable and probably unexciting.
3) MOODINESS. This is an immature quality that is detrimental to personal relationships. Moody people are fickle and, thus, people who can-not be depended upon. Confidence is never built on a person who is subject to sullenness.
4) PERFECTIONISM. Perfectionism is an obsessive need to perform flaw- lessly. It stifles creativity and freedom and it turns people away. Perfectionists can rarely affirm themselves; therefore, it’s very difficult for them to affirm others.
5) OVERSENSITIVITY. Oversensitive people are constantly licking their wounds. They look inward and are not aware of the needs of others. Naturally, people don’t flock around them.
6) NEGATIVISM. By definition, negativism is the opposite of charisma. A person with a constant negative attitude is depressing to be around. Their personality says no to life in general. Others will avoid a person like that. There is no possibility of being a charismatic and an effective leader when no one wants to be around you.
