THANKSGIVING
GIVING THANKS AT THANKSGIVING
1 fIt is good to give thanks to the Lord,
to sing praises to your name, gO Most High;
2 to declare your hsteadfast love in ithe morning,
and your hfaithfulness by inight,
3 to the music of jthe lute and jthe harp,
to the melody of jthe lyre.
4 For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your kwork;
at lthe works of your hands I sing for joy.
I. WE SHOULD GIVE THANKS FOR OUR SAVIOUR.
1. For His devotion to the Father; .
42 saying, w“Father, if you are willing, remove xthis cup from me. yNevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”
We should give thanks for our savior,
2. For His finished work; .
30 When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, e“It is finished,” and he bowed his head and fgave up his spirit.
3. For His saving power; .
37 zAll that athe Father gives me will cometo me, and bwhoever comes to me I willnever cast out.
II. WE SHOULD GIVE THANKS FOR THE HOLY SPIRIT.
1. For His convicting power; .
8 mAnd when he comes, he will nconvict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 concerning sin, obecause they do not believe in me; 10 pconcerning righteousness, qbecause I go tothe Father, and you will see me no longer; 11 rconcerning judgment, because the ruler of this world sisjudged.
2. For His leadership; .
14 For all who are eled by the Spirit of God are fsons6 of God.
3. For His producing fruit in us; , .
22 But ethe fruit of the Spirit is flove, joy, peace, patience, gkindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 hgentleness, iself-control; jagainst such things there is no law. .
III. WE SHOULD GIVE THANKS FOR THE BIBLE.
1. For its inspiration; .
16 dAll Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
2. For its power; .
12 For wthe word of God is living and xactive, ysharper than any ztwo-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and adiscerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
3. For its message; .
16 “For hGod so loved ithe world,9 jthat hegave his only Son, that whoever believes inhim should not kperish but have eternallife.
IV. WE SHOULD GIVE THANKS FOR SALVATION.
1. For the forgiveness of sin; .
8 aI will cleanse them from all the guilt of their sin against me, band I will forgive all the guilt of their sin and rebellion against me.
2. For cleansing from sin; .
9 uIf we confess our sins, he is vfaithful and just to forgive us our sins and rto cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
3. For the assurance of salvation; .
12 ewhich is why I suffer as I do. But fI am not ashamed, for gI know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until hthat day iwhat has been entrusted to me.3
Today if you don’t know Jesus you have little to agree with this message about thanksgiving.
We as believers have hope in the Lord! I was reminded this week in my quite time with the Lord of this
Jesus resurrection from the dead is the firstfruits example. What does this mean? Agricultural term in Greek, the first sample. The firstfruit indicates the nature and quality of the rest of the crop. That tells us if we believe in Him for salvation, we will be just like Him. We will be raised from the dead and walk in newness of life and when we die, have eternal life!
Where does your thankfulness rest? You are thankful for the work of salvation he has provided for you. You have excepted the gift of salvation and believed in your heart and trusted him for saving you? Then you have hope.
Or are you trying to work for your salvation. You are hopeless! You cant save you.
3 For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. 4 But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, 5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, 6 whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
WE are saved according to His mercy, justified by his grace!
