2 TIm 4:1
1 I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: 2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. 3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, 4 and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. 5 As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. 6 For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing. 9 Do your best to come to me soon. 10 For Demas, in love with this present world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia.
1 Now the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will depart from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and the teachings of demons, 2 through the hypocrisy of liars whose consciences are seared. 3 They forbid marriage and demand abstinence from foods that God created to be received with gratitude by those who believe and know the truth. 4 For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 5 since it is sanctified by the word of God and by prayer. 6 If you point these things out to the brothers and sisters, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, nourished by the words of the faith and the good teaching that you have followed. 7 But have nothing to do with pointless and silly myths. Rather, train yourself in godliness. 8 For the training of the body has limited benefit, but godliness is beneficial in every way, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. 9 This saying is trustworthy and deserves full acceptance. 10 For this reason we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe.
The Charge (v. 1-2)
1 I solemnly charge you before God and Christ Jesus, who is going to judge the living and the dead, and because of his appearing and his kingdom: 2 Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; rebuke, correct, and encourage with great patience and teaching.
2 tim 4:1
Paul here warns Timothy of the hudge responsibility of dealing with the word of God
I charge you
Before God
Before Jesus who is going to Judge the living and the dead
so what is the charge?
Preach the Word!
be ready in season
be ready out of season
rebuke
correct
encourge
have great patience and great teaching
Be ready in season
Be ready when it is easy
Be ready out of season
be ready when it is not easy
Rebuke and correct
bring the truth to light and show what is right
ecourge
show needed change
have great patience and great teaching
this is refering to helthy teaching Paul is telling timothy to preach the word of God weather on ot it is popular and those who reject it are spiritually sick
What do we need to do?
We need to understand that it is the word of God speaking on the preacher
preachers who spoute opinions or try to make the passage fit there agenda our a problum
we need to stop trying to make our agenda fit the scripture and let the scripture conform our agenda
What do we find in Hebreews 4
12 For the word of God is living and effective and sharper than any double-edged sword, penetrating as far as the separation of soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
It is not about our thoughts our agendas or anything elce about us it is all about him we need to listen to the preaching of the Word!
The comming time (3-4)
3 For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, will multiply teachers for themselves because they have an itch to hear what they want to hear. 4 They will turn away from hearing the truth and will turn aside to myths.
Sound filmilar?
not endure sound teaching
accumulate teachers who will tell them what they want to hear
they will turn from truth and turn to myths
This is why the understanding and preachip of the word of God is so importent. if we do not take the word of God seriously we will spout hericy.
Some examples
some say today “I don’t need traing I am just called to preach”
A wis man once said if I had three years to serve the Lord I would spend the first two preparing
Others say scholership is not importent Im just going to do WHat the spirit tells me
if we do not spend time studying the word of God we will commit several dangerous errors.
We need to teach the truth!
as for you (v. 5-6)
5 An athlete is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. 6 It is the hard-working farmer who ought to have the first share of the crops.
5 As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. 6 For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come.
2 Tim
