6 And he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none. 7 And he said to the vinedresser, ‘Look, for three years now I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and I find none. Cut it down. Why should it use up the ground?’ 8 And he answered him, ‘Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and put on manure. 9 Then if it should bear fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down.’ ”
You ever had a time in your life where it felt like the sun was shining on your life?
You ever had a time in your life where it felt like the sun was shining on your life?
You were growing, moving, fruitful...
You ever had a time in your life where it felt like the sun was impossible to find? Like it wasn’t on or wasn’t working?
You ever had a time in your life where it felt like the sun was impossible to find? Like it wasn’t on or wasn’t working?
Thats the story Jesus tells in Luke 13:
Judgment… A sun-lost, sun-less world.
Three components of love that work together for sun-less judgments to evaporate and growth and fruit to come in our lives:
Digging… fertilizer… time
Grace
Truth
Time
For our lives to change and grow, these three elements are essential.
We begin our journey into the movie YESTERDAY by meeting it’s central figure, Jack Malik, along with his manager (who secretly is in love with Jack) Ellie, in a time of harsh judgement. There’s a tree… but the fruit is impossible to locate.

AND… The Beatles
Jack brings a bunch of their songs forward… and before he knows it, he is no longer singing in empty tents at low level music festivals.
From Yesterday to Elanore Rigby to Long and Winding Road to Let it Be… he gets discovered and rediscovered… and makes friends with the famous and the powerful…
It’s a great GRACE in the story… to be gifted with the songs of the Beatles!
That grace is accompanied with a growing nagging truth: that tho the world doesn’t know the Beatles, Jack cannot escape this truth: he is a thief.
This truth rolls through the grace he has been given when the final meeting comes just before the release of his first CD.

I wonder what you would say if you were the fig tree in Jesus story?
I wonder what you would say if you were the fig tree in Jesus story?
— 3 years to grow… 1 year to the Lord… three years no fruit… what would you be saying if you were a judged fruitless tree?
Probably the same thing Jack says as he has now become a judged seemingly fruitful tree...
CLIP 3 — 1:26:05 - 1:28:05 “HELP ME”
In the crowd there are two odd souls who are determined to meet Jack… he’s noticed them… and now he meets them.

CLIP 4 — 1:28:44 - 1:31:39 GRACE UPON GRACE
16 For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known.
16 For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.

John 1:16-18
Grace without truth becomes little more than permission.
Truth without grace can be crushing.
17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known.
The grace of digging… the truth of fertilizer… in the framework of time spent both poorly and wisely can help you when you need HELP.
When Jesus digs aroud
Do you sense Jesus digging in your life today?
Do you sense Jesus fertilizing around the tree of your life today?
Is time crawling? Flying? Standing still?
Jack’s new friends offer him another grace. An unexpected gift of grace to collide with some much needed truths… Their digging leads him down this Long and Winding Road...

CLIP 5 — 1:32:29 - 1:35:49 MEETING JOHN
When grace and truth and time have their way, its’ like the sun begins to break through in our lives.
When that happens, time stops moving one way or another because now time is REDEEMED.
When love can be expressed via grace, truth, and time… divine love can triumph… even when the initial losses can be humiliating and significant.

CLIP 6 — 1:39:26 - 1:41:51 COMING CLEAN
Have you ever come clean? Do you need to come clean? Does it seem too expensive? It may be expensive.
But for fruitless trees to find the sun of real, authentic, eternal life — within the life, body, job, and relationships you actually have — it’s going to take some digging, fertilizing, and time. And the flowers can bud… and your heart can grow… even when you lose all you wanted to find what you desire.
