Introduction
Here we are just a week away from Thanksgiving and with it we find ourselves looking inward in response to God’s good gifts . We thank Him for loving us and for walking with us, for granting to us salvation.
The book of Psalm are always a place to look for Praise for a variety of reasons, and it is here that we can find the opportunity to praise the Lord.
Now we are just a week away from Thanksgiving and with it a time to rejoice, give thanks and reflect upon the goodness of the Lord.
And as all this happened and as they began to minister again before the Lord, David and those with him gave thanks to God.
So consider why we give thanks to God today.
Now we know that most of what we celebrate as Thanksgiving, at least in the first sense falls back to the pilgrims celebrating their first year, Gov William Brafford, in response to our first corn harvest that was successful , we know that he called for a time of Thanksgiving, inviting the native american allies this is where our first thanksgiving orginates from...
Historians have suggested that many of the dishes were likely prepared using traditional Native American spices and cooking methods. Because the Pilgrims had no oven and the Mayflower’s sugar supply had dwindled by the fall of 1621, the meal did not feature pies, cakes or other desserts, which have become a hallmark of contemporary celebrations

Pilgrims held their second Thanksgiving celebration in 1623 to mark the end of a long drought that had threatened the year’s harvest and prompted Governor Bradford to call for a religious fast. Days of fasting and thanksgiving on an annual or occasional basis became common practice in other New England settlements as well.
During the American Revolution, the Continental Congress designated one or more days of thanksgiving a year, and in 1789 George Washington issued the first Thanksgiving proclamation by the national government of the United States; in it, he called upon Americans to express their gratitude for the happy conclusion to the country’s war of independence and the successful ratification of the U.S. Constitution. His successors John Adams and James Madison also designated days of thanks during their presidencies.
In 1817, New York became the first of several states to officially adopt an annual Thanksgiving holiday; each celebrated it on a different day, however, and the American South remained largely unfamiliar with the tradition.
Abraham Lincoln finally heeded her request in 1863, at the height of the Civil War, in a proclamation entreating all Americans to ask God to “commend to his tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife” and to “heal the wounds of the nation.” He scheduled Thanksgiving for the final Thursday in November, and it was celebrated on that day every year until 1939, when Franklin D. Roosevelt moved the holiday up a week in an attempt to spur retail sales during the Great Depression. Roosevelt’s plan, known derisively as Franksgiving, was met with passionate opposition, and in 1941 the president reluctantly signed a bill making Thanksgiving the fourth Thursday in November.

4 Then he appointed some of the Levites as ministers before the ark of the Lord, to invoke, to thank, and to praise the Lord, the God of Israel.

But why can we give thanks....

Lets look at
1 Praise the Lord!
Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever!
2 Who can utter the mighty deeds of the Lord,
or declare all his praise?
3 Blessed are they who observe justice,
who do righteousness at all times!
4 Remember me, O Lord, when you show favor to your people;
help me when you save them,
5 that I may look upon the prosperity of your chosen ones,
that I may rejoice in the gladness of your nation,
that I may glory with your inheritance.
6 Both we and our fathers have sinned;
we have committed iniquity; we have done wickedness.
7 Our fathers, when they were in Egypt,
did not consider your wondrous works;
they did not remember the abundance of your steadfast love,
but rebelled by the sea, at the Red Sea.
8 Yet he saved them for his name’s sake,
that he might make known his mighty power.

as the Lord commanded them,

and learned to do as they did.

which became a snare to them.
37 They sacrificed their sons
and their daughters to the demons;
38 they poured out innocent blood,
the blood of their sons and daughters,
whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan,
and the land was polluted with blood.
39 Thus they became unclean by their acts,
and played the whore in their deeds.
40 Then the anger of the Lord was kindled against his people,
and he abhorred his heritage;
41 he gave them into the hand of the nations,
so that those who hated them ruled over them.
42 Their enemies oppressed them,
and they were brought into subjection under their power.
43 Many times he delivered them,
but they were rebellious in their purposes
and were brought low through their iniquity.
44 Nevertheless, he looked upon their distress,
when he heard their cry.
45 For their sake he remembered his covenant,
and relented according to the abundance of his steadfast love.
46 He caused them to be pitied
by all those who held them captive.
47 Save us, O Lord our God,
and gather us from among the nations,
that we may give thanks to your holy name
and glory in your praise.
48 Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,

Praise the Lord!
A Psalm for giving thanks.
1 Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
2 Serve the Lord with gladness!
Come into his presence with singing!
3 Know that the Lord, he is God!
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him; bless his name!
5 For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures forever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.

4 Then he appointed some of the Levites as ministers before the ark of the Lord, to invoke, to thank, and to praise the Lord, the God of Israel. 5 Asaph was the chief, and second to him were Zechariah, Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel, who were to play harps and lyres; Asaph was to sound the cymbals, 6 and Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests were to blow trumpets regularly before the ark of the covenant of God. 7 Then on that day David first appointed that thanksgiving be sung to the Lord by Asaph and his brothers.

23 Sing to the Lord, all the earth!
Tell of his salvation from day to day.
24 Declare his glory among the nations,
his marvelous works among all the peoples!
25 For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised,
and he is to be feared above all gods.
26 For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols,
but the Lord made the heavens.
27 Splendor and majesty are before him;
strength and joy are in his place.
28 Ascribe to the Lord, O families of the peoples,
ascribe to the Lord glory and strength!
29 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;
bring an offering and come before him!
Worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness;
30 tremble before him, all the earth;
yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved.
31 Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice,
and let them say among the nations, “The Lord reigns!”
32 Let the sea roar, and all that fills it;
let the field exult, and everything in it!
33 Then shall the trees of the forest sing for joy
before the Lord, for he comes to judge the earth.
34 Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
for his steadfast love endures forever!
35 Say also:
“Save us, O God of our salvation,
and gather and deliver us from among the nations,
that we may give thanks to your holy name
and glory in your praise.
36 Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
from everlasting to everlasting!”
Then all the people said, “Amen!” and praised the Lord.
37 So David left Asaph and his brothers there before the ark of the covenant of the Lord to minister regularly before the ark as each day required, 38 and also Obed-edom and his sixty-eight brothers, while Obed-edom, the son of Jeduthun, and Hosah were to be gatekeepers. 39 And he left Zadok the priest and his brothers the priests before the tabernacle of the Lord in the high place that was at Gibeon 40 to offer burnt offerings to the Lord on the altar of burnt offering regularly morning and evening, to do all that is written in the Law of the Lord that he commanded Israel. 41 With them were Heman and Jeduthun and the rest of those chosen and expressly named to give thanks to the Lord, for his steadfast love endures forever. 42 Heman and Jeduthun had trumpets and cymbals for the music and instruments for sacred song. The sons of Jeduthun were appointed to the gate.
43 Then all the people departed each to his house, and David went home to bless his household.

5 verses that remind us to praise the Lord with gladness and joy my friends.
Verse 1. Burst forth in song and praise, not just you, but all the earth. We are subjects of the King. Give him what he deserves from inside of our very lives. Shout at the top of your lungs and give him praise, He is worthy of all praise.

Do you remember as Jesus rode into the city, the Pharisees and religious leaders complained… Jesus said of the people were quite, the very ricks would cry out.
37 As he was drawing near—already on the way down the Mount of Olives—the whole multitude of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen, 38 saying, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” 39 And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.” 40 He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.”
He is worthy of our praise
Verse 2 “ Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! “
gladness, refers to joy, there is no hurt here, but in love we serve the one who first loved us.
Come into his presence with singing...
Why would you sing unto the Lord?
I can list several reasons to sing, to praise and pray to the Lord...
A. He has called you… He called you into salvation, the Holy Spirit convicted you and led you to the Lord.
4 Be angry, and do not sin;
ponder in your own hearts on your beds, and be silent. Selah
3 But know that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself;
the Lord hears when I call to him.
B. He saved you - By his own sacrifice, He has redeemed you from the curse of the law.
C. He never leaves you or forsakes you. Low I am with you always, even to the end of the world >20
D. He has prepared a home for us…
1 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
E. He is faithful until the end.

Now look at verse 3
3 Know that the Lord, he is God!
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Ps
He in all his actions, He words for our good, to bless and help His children. Not only has he created us, called us but he worked on our behalf, being both prophet, priest and King.
Faithlife Study Bible Psalm 100
100:3 Lord, he is God The psalmist exhorts his audience to know that Yahweh is God (elohim). He may be drawing from Psa 99, which uses the phrase yhwh elohenu (“Yahweh our God”) four times (99:5, 8, 9).
made The psalmist is probably referring to Yahweh’s activity in making Israel into a people for Himself, though the psalmist could also be referring to Yahweh as the creator of humanity. Compare 96:6–7.
we are his people Israel’s status as God’s people draws strong connections with the exodus and subsequent events (see Exod 6:7; 19:5; Deut 7:6).
the sheep of his pasture The psalms portray God as a shepherd who watches over His people. See Ps 95:7 and note.

for his name’s sake.

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me

Now lets look at verses 4-5
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him; bless his name!
5 For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures forever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.
3 Give thanks to the Lord of lords,
for his steadfast love endures forever;
The call is to come into the temple praising Him, lifting up with great joy the goodness and gladness of the Lord..
Verse 5 he is good...
love never changes, and he is faithful for all generations
The love there is a steadfast, a loyal faithful love, one that only the Lord can produced and abide in… He is part of His essential character and qualities.
