Don’t Worry Be Happy

Knowing God is to know good doctrine. Doctrine is theological formulation that provides a summary statement of teachings of scriptures. Doctrine is faithful to the scriptures and to bring light to contemporary audiences of the ancient text.
The word of God teaches us of God’s faithfulness and love for his children. The bible teaches us that God will never fail in his word. His promises are true. Therefore, faith in God should lead us not to be anxious or worried about our life knowing that God has our life in total control. So we do not need to worry.
The idea of removing stress from your life even made its way to a popular song...
“doctrine,” Pocket Dictionary of Theological Terms, 40.

Here's a little song I wrote You might want to sing it note for note Don't worry, be happy In every life we have some trouble But when you worry you make it double Don't worry, be happy Don't worry, be happy now
Here’s a
As sung by Bobby McFerrin 1988.
Then in 1994 Timon and Puma introduced many to the Swahili phrase, “Hakuna matata” which does mean no worries. This phrase and motto was expressed in song form in Disney’s Lion King. “It means don’t worry for the rest of your days”
Lion King introduced many to the Swahili phrase, “Hakuna matata” which does mean no worries.
Hakuna matata! Does mean no worries.
So let us see how Jesus teaches us to fully trust the Lord’s provision in our life.

What profit is there in worrying?

Matthew 6:25-27
Matthew 6:25–27 NLT
25 “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? 27 Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?
There is no need to worry about everyday life.
You do not need to worry about food and drink.
You do not need to worry about clothing more than your body.
Why worry about things you do not control.
You do not control the food or the water.
You should not be overwhelmed by fashion.
The weather impacts the supply of food and the prices of produce. The market fluctuates and prices go up and down and are beyond our control. There are times we have more than enough. There are times when we can climb in our fridge and not tip anything over because it is bare.
Jesus uses object lessons to teach this principle of not worrying and trust the provision of God.

Object lesson one is the Birds.

Matthew 6:26 NLT
26 Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?
Matthew 6:26
The birds serve as a contrast to humans.
Humans sow and reap in order to eat.
Birds neither reap or sow and always eat.
Who is worth more the birds or humans?
Who did God put in charge of his creation?
In what form did the Son of Man come?
Who
God delivers Israel from Egypt not a species of bird. God delivered his special creation he made in his image. So how wonderful it is to be loved by God who made you for greater things.

Summary of object lesson

Matthew 6:
Matthew 6:27 NLT
27 Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?
If God provides for the birds that do not plant or harvest. Since God has continuously provided for the birds. Will he not also do the same for his children. Just like God was faithful to Israel in the wilderness. God provided for Israel in the wilderness protections, food and guidance. They were never without food as God provided them food with birds and created manna for them as well.
So why do you need to worry about your life?
What does worrying bring you?
What can worrying not do?
Jesus makes it clear in that worrying will not bring you long life. You worrying will not add a day to your life.

Object lesson two

Matthew 6:28
Matthew 6:28–30 NLT
28 “And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, 29 yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. 30 And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?

Jesus second object are the flowers.

The flowers ephemeral state is well known. To know the flowers will be here today and gone tomorrow is expressed in the text. It is also expressed that the flowers are adorned beautifully and in contrast to King Solomon they were better adorned than him.
Every Spring you see flowers adorned.
The flowers do not work or make their clothing.
Are the flowers worth more than you?
There was not another king like Solomon but the flowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow. He will care for his little children.

Summary of second object lesson is on faith.

Matthew 6:30 NLT
30 And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?
Matthew 6:
Why do you have little faith. Doctrine on God teaches that he is a provider for his people. Doctrine teaches us the Lord is a forever faithful God.

Therefore Jesus further punctuates his message...

Matthew 6:31–33 NLT
31 “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ 32 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. 33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
Don’t worry about these things.
What you will eat.
What you will drink
What you will wear.
These thoughts dominate the thoughts of unbelievers.
God knows the needs of his children.
Since God knows our needs we need to stay focus on serving him and not satisfying our own appetites.
:33
Matthew 6:33 NLT
33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

No need to worry.

Matthew 6:34 NLT
34 “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.
God does not worry. So why do you worry. Worrying will only cause you more stress and issues in your life. Jesus made it clear the worrying will not add days to your life. Now he points out that worrying about tomorrow is not worth your time.
Today’s trouble is more than enough to deal with.
Tomorrows will come with new troubles that are out of your control.
One thing we do know is that God is still God tomorrow as he is today and therefore we do not need to worry.
