Habakkuk 3:16–19 NIV84
16 I heard and my heart pounded, my lips quivered at the sound; decay crept into my bones, and my legs trembled. Yet I will wait patiently for the day of calamity to come on the nation invading us. 17 Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, 18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior. 19 The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights. For the director of music. On my stringed instruments.

1. God wants us to be always thankful

1 Thessalonians 5:18 NIV84
18 give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
The prophet Habakkuk personified this command
This is a command not a suggestion
This is the will of God for us
Be thankful

2. Attitude is the key to a thankful heart

Don’t feel entitled and you will be thankful
Don’t give in to the pressures of society to gain material possessions and you will be thankful
Trust that God know what He is doing better than you or I and you will be thankful

3. God wants us to be thankful when we are in lack

When provisions are few, God is still the Provider
If the harvest has not arrived, Trust God is able
When things go from bad to worse, God can turn it around

4. When passing through trials, Be Thankful

Trials are not eternal
This too shall pass
You are just going through a season
This is not your destination
Things are tough, thankfulness will get you out of that spot

5. Thankful anyhow

Though the fig tree does not bud, God is still God
He will make you graceful
Your attitude determines your altitude
God will enable you to reach new heights
You are the head
You are above only
You are blessed
You are His
