-- The Lord instructs us in His Word through the examples of righteous AND wicked people.
-- King Jehoahaz followed the idolatrous sins of Jeroboam, including not removing the Asherah pillars.
-- Jehoahaz exhibited a shallow, false repentance to avoid pain and judgment, but did not “bring forth fruit in keeping with repentance” (per John the Baptist).
-- The false repentance ultimately led to the Assyrian captivity.
-- God takes idolatry seriously; yet. in His mercy, He also remembers His covenant with the Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, as seen in the reign of righteous Hezekiah.
