INTRO:
Recap - Wisdom folly, foolishness folly, both perish
Jenga Tower
Work is Vanity
Work is Vanity
Read
Solomon worked hard, gained a lot, all for vanity
Why was it all vanity?
I hated all my toil in which I toil under the sun, seeing that I must leave it to the man who will come after me,
Wealth
Possessions
Kingdom
Property
All will belong to someone else eventually
Why is Solomon worried about the next generation?
and who knows whether he will be wise or a fool? Yet he will be master of all for which I toiled and used my wisdom under the sun. This also is vanity.
Doesnt know what the next person will do with all that he labored for
Steve Jobs & George Washington
Solomon turns to despair
Read
Hopelessness
Vanity
Despair
What Does This Mean For Me?
What Does This Mean For Me?
No need to study and do well in school?
No need to worry about a job in the future?
WRONG!
For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies. Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living.
You earn what you get....Don’t work you don’t eat
yes you study and work hard so you can contribute as an adult
For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins.
Grow in knowledge to grow in virtue (excellence)
God’s calling for you is holiness and righteouseness
Striving for God!
Same conclusion Solomon came to
