Song: Rest High on the Mountain
Psalm 23 NLT
A psalm of David. 1 The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. 2 He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. 3 He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. 4 Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. 5 You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. 6 Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.

Psalm 46:1–3 NLT
1 God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. 2 So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea. 3 Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge! Interlude

Message
As we gather today to remember the life of Barbara Jewusaik, I know you are dealing with great sadness as you continue without your dad, son, brother, friend. At the same time, there is hope in the Lord who says all who call on the name of the Lord shall be saved...
The Apostle Paul comforts us with these words...
2 CO
2 Corinthians 5:6–8 NKJV
6 So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight. 8 We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.
Absent from the Body is present with God.
There is nothing better than to be in the presence of The One who loves us more than anyone. Jesus makes some awesome promises in
John 14:1–6 NLT
1 “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. 2 There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? 3 When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.” 5 “No, we don’t know, Lord,” Thomas said. “We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?” 6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.
Promises that will comfort us today.

1. As Christians we don’t have to fear death

Jesus - Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me
Jesus said if we trust in God we should also trust in him. We are to place our trust in Jesus for both our lives here on earth and for our eternal destination.
Most of us are troubled with death because we don’t know what is going top happen when we die, but Jesus takes the fear out of dying.
Jesus - I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you
Jesus has conquered death and the grave and He is preparing a place for those who trust in Him - - Barbara like many of us, heard the Gospel and knew God. So we don’t have to fear what happens after we die as Christians.
ILL – Father in Law – friend died on the table and it was a while before they were able to bring him back. While he was out, he saw heaven. He told my father in law, that he could not imagine how anyone would possibly be afraid to die because heaven was such a beautiful place. He was no longer afraid to die. He said that while he was there, he felt totally loved and fulfilled.
Rev
Revelation 1:17–18 NLT
17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as if I were dead. But he laid his right hand on me and said, “Don’t be afraid! I am the First and the Last. 18 I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave.
The good news today is that death has no hold on Barbara nor does it have a hold on us – Jesus Christ conquered death and if we have received Jesus we don’t have to fear death.
We are troubled when we see death as the end instead of the beginning.
2 Corinthians 5:1–2 NLT
1 For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and leave this earthly body), we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God himself and not by human hands. 2 We grow weary in our present bodies, and we long to put on our heavenly bodies like new clothing.

2. Jesus prepares a place for His followers in heaven.

Revelation 21:4 NIV
4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

3. Jesus personally receives us.

John 14:3 NLT
3 When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.

4. There is only one way to enter heaven

John 14:6 NLT
6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.
1 John 5:12–13 NLT
12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life. 13 I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life.
1 John 5:12
Romans 10:13 NLT
13 For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Revelation 3:20 NIV
20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.
