Give Thanks To The Lord: 19 Profound Reasons
Give Thanks To The Lord: 19 Profound Reasons
November 20, 2018 by Mark Altroggeđˇ
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever ().
Though our nation celebrates Thanksgiving once a year, we who believe in Jesus Christ have reasons to give thanks every single hour of every day!
We should be the most thankful people on the face of the earth.
Here are 19 glorious, profound reasons to give thanks to the Lord every day.
#1 â Give Thanks To The Lord Because Heâs Given Us The Greatest Gift
#1 â Give Thanks To The Lord Because Heâs Given Us The Greatest Gift
đˇ
âFor God so loved the world, that he GAVE his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life ().
For to us a child is born, to us a son is GIVEN; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace ().Â
God has given us the greatest gift he could possibly give us â Jesus Christ, his own Son. No other gift could ever be more valuable or precious. And if God has given us the greatest gift, he will certainly not withhold lesser gifts.
Charles Spurgeon talked about a woman who realized that Jesus was the greatest gift of all:
I have heard of some good old woman in a cottage, who had nothing but a piece of bread and a little water. Lifting up her hands, she said as a blessing, âWhat! All this, and Christ too?â
Most of us have seen movies like National Treasure or Indiana Jones (I know, Iâm showing my age here) where people suddenly come into a room filled with treasures â mountains of gold coins and gold statues and treasure chests and great heaps of diamonds and jewels.
The scene that opens up before the characters takes their breath away.
We should give thanks to the Lord because we have something infinitely better in this life and the next: Christ is our treasure. And someday when we walk into heaven and we see the face of Jesus in all his incomprehensible glory we will fall on our faces and praise him forever. Christ is our treasure.
In Christ, we have eternal life. We have complete and total forgiveness of every one of our sins. We are now sons and daughters of God â Godâs family. Even the angels arenât sons and daughters.
In Christ, we have complete and total access to the very throne of God any time day or night. The Bible says we are joint-heirs with Christ â we share in Christâs inheritance! In HIS rewards!
Hereâs how Paul put it:
Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ ().
Paul says, if I had all the riches in the world, if I had mansions and wealth and fame and every good thing this world could offer, it is all rubbish, itâs all garbage, compared to the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. I give up everything for his sake â Iâve suffered the loss of all things.
If you have believed in Jesus and called upon him to save you and be your Lord, then you are richer than Bill Gates or Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerburg or the richest kings who ever lived.
#2 â Give Thanks To The Lord For The Undeserved Gift Of Salvation
#2 â Give Thanks To The Lord For The Undeserved Gift Of Salvation
A gift is something we donât deserve or havenât earned. God doesnât owe us anything!
This is why we should constantly give thanks to the Lord. If we deserved or had earned our salvation there would be no reason for us to give thanks. We didnât deserve to have God give us the gift of his Son. All we deserved was to be cast into hell forever for our rebellion and sins against a Holy God.
But God is so loving and wonderful and amazing, that he gave his Son to us while we were still sinners and had no interest in God or love for him.
âŚbut God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us ()
Incredible! Before we had any interest in God or desire to please him, while we were still spitting in his face and breaking his commandments, while we were slaves of sin and dead in our sins, Christ died in our place to save us from the wrath of God which we did deserve.
Salvation is a gift from God.
Every day, we should give thanks to the Lord for saving us.
#3 â Give Thanks To The Lord For His Precious Word
#3 â Give Thanks To The Lord For His Precious Word
đˇ
Your words were found, and I ate them, and your words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart, for I am called by your name, O LORD, God of hosts ()
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path ().
What an incredible blessing! We have the very words of God himself, the fountain of all truth, wisdom, and revelation. In Godâs word, he reveals himself, tells us what he is like, shares his very thoughts with us, counsels and guides us.
Apart from Godâs word, we could not know about his holiness, love and his plan of salvation. Apart from Godâs word we would not know about Jesus Christ or his sacrifice for us on the cross. We have Godâs word. Millions donât. We should be so thankful to the Lord for his precious word.
#4 â Give Thanks To The Lord For His Mercy, Love, and Faithfulness
#4 â Give Thanks To The Lord For His Mercy, Love, and Faithfulness
God not only rescued us from our sins, but he actively loves us every single day
But this I call to mind,
and therefore I have hope:
The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness (-23).
The Creator of the universe loves us! He pours out new and endless mercies every morning. He is faithful to us. He never takes his eyes from us. He is faithful to bless and guide and help and strengthen us. His love is steadfast. He never takes a break from loving us. Never turns away from us.
This gives us incredible hope and every reason to praise and give thanks to the Lord.
#5 â Give Thanks To The Lord That Nothing Will Ever Separate Us From Him
#5 â Give Thanks To The Lord That Nothing Will Ever Separate Us From Him
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written,
âFor your sake we are being killed all the day long;
we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.â
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord ().Â
Nothing will ever separate us from the love of our God. When my mother got Alzheimerâs disease, she said, âI hope I never forget Jesus and I hope I never forget my family.â I said, âMom, even if you forget Jesus, he will never forget you. And even if you forget us we will never forget you.â
Nothing â nothing will ever be able to separate us from Godâs love in Christ. What a gift! What a reason to give thanks to the Lord!
#6 â Give Thanks To The Lord That Someday Weâll See Him Face To Face
#6 â Give Thanks To The Lord That Someday Weâll See Him Face To Face
đˇ
Beloved, we are Godâs children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is ()
Jesusâ glory, beauty, and majesty are infinite. He is so beautiful that in the Seraphim, the highest angels in heaven, who had never sinned, had to cover their faces. They could not look upon the holiness and glory of God.
Yet we will someday look upon Jesus face to face, be amazed and astounded and give him glory forever and ever.
What a compelling reason to give thanks to the Lord!
#7 â Give Thanks To The Lord For Making Us Like Christ
#7 â Give Thanks To The Lord For Making Us Like Christ
And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit ().Â
As we behold Christâs glory in his word and worship and prayer, God is transforming his children day by day into the likeness of Jesus. From one degree of glory to another. And someday we will be completely transformed into Christâs likeness.
We wonât be gods, but we will be like him, clothed in his glory. This is absolutely staggering! Someday, we will be totally and completely conformed to the image of Jesus!
#8 â Give Thanks To The Lord That Heâll Fulfill His Plans For Us
#8 â Give Thanks To The Lord That Heâll Fulfill His Plans For Us
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope ().Â
The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me;
your steadfast love, O LORD, endures forever.
Do not forsake the work of your hands ().
You may not know what Godâs plans and purposes for your life are. But we donât have to know because God does. And he has plans and purposes for every single one of his children. Before the foundation of the world he created good works for us to walk in.
Nothing can stop God from fulfilling his plans for our lives. We should thank God that he will fulfill his every purpose for us.
Isnât that good news? Letâs give thanks to the Lord for fulfilling his good and perfect plans for us.
#9 â Give Thanks To The Lord For His Abundant Goodness
#9 â Give Thanks To The Lord For His Abundant Goodness
Oh, how abundant is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you and worked for those who take refuge in you, in the sight of the children of mankind! ()
God doesnât have just a little bit of goodness stored up for us. He has ABUNDANT goodness stored up. He has bags and bags of grace stored up, just waiting to pour out on us.
We can thank our Father for the abundant goodness he has poured out on us already, and look forward to a future full of blessings in heaven.
#10 â Give Thanks To The Lord For His Daily Provision
#10 â Give Thanks To The Lord For His Daily Provision
đˇ
Give us this day our daily bread ().
In the âLordâs Prayerâ Jesus tells us to ask our heavenly Father to provide for us. Most of us in this nation have food on our tables every day. Every meal is a gift from God.
Letâs constantly give thanks to the Lord for our jobs and our income and the abundance of food and provision he has lavished on us.
#11 â Give Thanks To The Lord For His Constant Protection
#11 â Give Thanks To The Lord For His Constant Protection
The angel of the LORD encamps
around those who fear him, and delivers them.
Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good!
Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! ()
Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep ().
God never takes his eyes off us. He watches over his children day and night. Letâs thank God for his daily protection, for the thousands of trips and drives God has protected you on. For protecting us every night as we sleep.
Let us thank God for protecting us from every attack of the evil one, and for delivering us from sin and temptation.
#12 â Give Thanks To The Lord For His Constant Guidance
#12 â Give Thanks To The Lord For His Constant Guidance
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you ().
What an incredible promise! God himself promises to counsel and teach us. The Creator of the Universe is personally guiding each one of his children. He promises that if we ask him for wisdom he will give it to us. Jesus is our good shepherd who leads us beside still waters.
Are you unsure about what to do in your life? Are you facing baffling circumstances? Ask God for wisdom and guidance. Heâs waiting to give it to you. And thank him that he has promised to give us wisdom, to instruct and show us the way to go.
#13 â Give Thanks To The Lord That He Hears Our Prayers
#13 â Give Thanks To The Lord That He Hears Our Prayers
đˇ
âAsk, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you ()
I sought the LORD, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears ()
God has promised to answer the prayers of his children. Again and again, he encourages us to ask him for his help and grace and strength and provision. He doesnât tell us to ask in vain. He tells us to ask because he intends to answer.
We should constantly give thanks to God for hearing and answering our prayers.
#14 â Give Thanks To The Lord For Our Families And Friends
#14 â Give Thanks To The Lord For Our Families And Friends
Behold, children are a gift of the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward ()
A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity ().
Our families and friends are wonderful gifts from the Lord. Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to thank God for the gifts of your children, your parents, your brothers and sisters, and your friends.
#15 â Give Thanks To The Lord For Every Good Gift
#15 â Give Thanks To The Lord For Every Good Gift
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change ().Â
For who sees anything different in you? What do you have that you did not receive? If then you received it, why do you boast as if you did not receive it? ()
Every good thing we have is a gift from God. Our talents, our health, our intelligence, our jobs, our homes. Our spiritual gifts. Just look around your living room or den. Look around next time you go shopping. Our lives are filled with gifts from God. Letâs thank him for his generosity.
#16 â Give Thanks To The Lord For Health and Strength
#16 â Give Thanks To The Lord For Health and Strength
Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul ()
What a blessing good health is! We can give thanks for our eyesight and hearing, our taste, touch and sense of smell. We can thank God for every breath and beat of our hearts. Our health is a gift from God.
And for those of us who are suffering, as hard as that is to understand, we can still thank God that someday we will have new bodies free from all pain and sickness.
#17 â Give Thanks To The Lord That He Causes All Things To Work For Our Good
#17 â Give Thanks To The Lord That He Causes All Things To Work For Our Good
đˇ
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good,h for those who are called according to his purpose ().
Again, we may not understand it, but God causes ALL THINGS â good and bad â all things â to work together for our ultimate good. And someday we will see how. But for now, giving thanks in faith gives glory to God.
When we get to heaven, weâll see many of the ways that God worked things together for our good and his glory. But while weâre on this earth, we express faith in him by giving thanks for his sovereignty.
#18 â Give Thanks To The Lord For His Promises To Our Children
#18 â Give Thanks To The Lord For His Promises To Our Children
The children of your servants shall dwell secure; their offspring shall be established before you ().Â
âAnd as for me, this is my covenant with them,â says the LORD: âMy Spirit that is upon you, and my words that I have put in your mouth, shall not depart out of your mouth, or out of the mouth of your offspring, or out of the mouth of your childrenâs offspring,â says the LORD, âfrom this time forth and forevermore.â ()
There are many many promises like these in Godâs word. It is Godâs will to save and bless our children.
Letâs continually give thanks to the Lord for his promises to work in our kids and grandchildren. If God wasnât the one responsible for saving our children, how could we have any peace?
#19 â We Should Give Thanks To The Lord Because It Honors Him
#19 â We Should Give Thanks To The Lord Because It Honors Him
The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies me ().Â
Every believerâs greatest desire deep down is to glorify God. Most of us think that to glorify God we have to do something great. But the simple act of giving God thanks brings him glory. Giving thanks is an act of faith. We believe that every gift comes from God and we have faith in his promises to continue to give us every good gift.

Biblical Reasons To Be Thankful
Biblical Reasons To Be Thankful
Fritz Chery Jan 26, 2017 Biblical Reasons 0 comments
There are over a thousand reasons to thank God daily. The first thing you should do when you wake up is get quiet with God and thank Him. Sometimes we lose sight of what is in front of us. How many times a week do you thank Jesus Christ for saving you? Be content with what you have. We have friends, family, food, clothes, water, jobs, cars, a place to put our head at night, and I could go on forever.
We live life sometimes like these things are nothing. My fellow Christians these are blessings. Sometimes we want more or better, but there is someone who will sleep on dirt today. There are people who will starve. There are people who will die without knowing the Lord. When you see how blessed we truly are that a holy God will love vile people like us and crush His Son for us that makes you more thankful.
When weâre appreciative of all He has done for us that makes us want to love Him more, obey more, give more, pray more, sacrifice more, and share the faith more. Readjust your prayer life today. Step away from the world and go be alone with the Lord. Say, âLord I love you and I thank you for all you have done for me. I ask that you help me to be more grateful for the things I take advantage of and neglect. Help me enjoy the little things in life.â
1. Be thankful that Jesus Christ died for your sins. He willfully suffered the full extent of Godâs wrath that you and I may live. We give Him nothing and all we do is take, but He gave His life for ours. That is true love. Thank God for our only claim to Heaven our beloved Savior Jesus Christ.
You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from Godâs wrath through him! For if, while we were Godâs enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.
But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did Godâs grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many!
2. Be thankful that Godâs love endures forever.
Give thanks to him who placed the earth among the waters. His faithful love endures forever. Give thanks to him who made the heavenly lightsâHis faithful love endures forever. the sun to rule the day, His faithful love endures forever. and the moon and stars to rule the night. His faithful love endures forever. Give thanks to him who killed the firstborn of Egypt. His faithful love endures forever.
Praise the LORD. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. Â Who can proclaim the mighty acts of the LORD or fully declare his praise?
3. If youâre a Christian be thankful that your sins even your deepest darkest sins are forgiven. Your chains are broken you are free!
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.
and through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christâs blood on the cross. This includes you who were once far away from God. You were his enemies, separated from him by your evil thoughts and actions. Yet now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault. But you must continue to believe this truth and stand firmly in it. Donât drift away from the assurance you received when you heard the Good News. The Good News has been preached all over the world, and I, Paul, have been appointed as Godâs servant to proclaim it.
4. Be thankful for the Bible.
for I delight in your commands because I love them.
Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long. Your commands are always with me and make me wiser than my enemies.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.
For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.
5. Be thankful for community.
Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Help carry one anotherâs burdens, and in this way you will obey the law of Christ.
6. Be thankful that God has provided you with food. It might not be Filet Mignon, but always remember that some people are eating mud pies.
Give us today our daily bread.
7. God promises to provide for your needs.
And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.
A psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
So do not worry, saying, âWhat shall we eat?â or âWhat shall we drink?â or âWhat shall we wear?â For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
8. Be thankful that your true home is waiting for you.
But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior.
However, as it is written: âWhat no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceivedâ â the things God has prepared for those who love him.
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.
9. Thank God you donât have to work your way into Heaven.
know that a person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be justified.
Clearly no one who relies on the law is justified before God, because âthe righteous will live by faith.â
10. Be thankful you are new and God is working in your life.
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
11. Be thankful that God woke you up this morning.
I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the LORD sustains me.
When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.
In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O LORD, will keep me safe.
12. Be thankful that God hears your prayers.
I call out to the LORD, and he answers me from his holy mountain.
Know that the LORD has set apart his faithful servant for himself; the LORD hears when I call to him.
This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears usâwhatever we askâwe know that we have what we asked of him.
13. Thank God for the trials that make you stronger.
In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faithâof greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fireâmay result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.
14. Being thankful gives you joy and will give you peace when you face obstacles.
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is Godâs will for you in Christ Jesus.
They are being tested by many troubles, and they are very poor. But they are also filled with abundant joy, which has overflowed in rich generosity.
15. Be thankful God is faithful.
God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
I entrust my spirit into your hand. Rescue me, LORD, for you are a faithful God.
16. Be thankful God convicts you of sin.
And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment.
17. Be thankful for your family.
We love because he first loved us.
Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.
But if she has children or grandchildren, their first responsibility is to show godliness at home and repay their parents by taking care of them. This is something that pleases God.
18. Be thankful that God is in control.
Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.
Jesus looked at them and said, âWith man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.â
The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.
19. Be thankful for sacrifices.
Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
20. Be thankful you can come into Godâs presence.
Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms. For the LORD is a great God And a great King above all gods.
21. Be thankful for blessings.
Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.
The blessing of the LORD brings wealth, without painful toil for it.
