INTRO:
In Acts Chapter 2 : Peter begins to sermonize one of the greatest calls to SALVATION ever. This is the INCEPTION of what we know now as the CHRISTIAN CHURCH!
During this rousing speech right about verse 32 Peter exclaims… THIS JESUS!
This lets us know and UNDERTSAND that just 50 days after his Resurrection there was some confusion about WHO JESUS WAS!
WHO IS THIS JESUS!
2000 years Later there is STILL some confusion about who JESUS IS!
My fear is that we are about to go into a season of celebration to celebrate a Jesus that we don’t know!
WHO IS THIS JESUS?
If you ask 200 people about Jesus you may get 200 different answers!
Books have Been Written about Him
Plays and Playwrites have Depicted Him
Movies have depicted him
Many have tried to capture his IMAGE but only a FEW have Captured his ESSEENCE
WHO IS THIS JESUS!
Various POLES have been taken and released citing that Jesus is the MOST popular Character in HUMAN HISTORY!
Keep in mind that there are 1.8 BILLION Mulslims in the world

I learned a VALUABLE lesson this day!

If you look for Jesus in some churches you will find a mean vindictive monster who only cares about the the length of skirts, and rather or not you use makeup to cover the blemishes on your face.
A Jesus who is ultimately only concerned about your appearance more than your more than your motive, your OUTFIT more than your INTENTIONS. the makeup on your face more than your made up mind.
Where you can have a GOOD HAT and a BAD HEART and still make your way to heaven.
Or even more deeply your denominational GANG MEMBERSHIP that says only we get to go to HEAVEN and everyone else who doesn’t LOOK LIKE US, DRESS LIKE US, TALK LIKE US, and PRAY LIKE US, everyone else can literally go to hell.
TO KNOW HIM means I can’t be MEAN… I can’t be NASTY… I’ve been forgiven too much!
He who has been forgiven much is GRATEFUL MUCH!
I can’t be KIND to the HORMONGER and MAD at the HOMOSEXUAL!
God is too GOOD for THAT!
WHO IS THIS JESUS?
If you look in Other Churches you will find a weak Jesus who never CORRECTS who never CONFRONTS who never CAJOLES who never CONDEMS. Who will let you do whatever you want to do, whenever you want to do it, with WHOMEVER you want to do it. Living a life that is displeasing to GOD and using GRACE as a GET OUTTA JAIL FREE CARD!

The problem with most of us is that we are trying to make Jesus look like the definition that we DEFINE!
But Jesus DEFINES HIMSELF!

This is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent to him priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?”
And he confessed and did not deny, but confessed, “I am not the Christ.”
They asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” And he said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.”
Then they said to him, “Who are you, so that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?”
He said, “I am a voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ as Isaiah the prophet said.”
Now they had been sent from the Pharisees.
They asked him, and said to him, “Why then are you baptizing, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”
John answered them saying, “I baptize in water, but among you stands One whom you do not know.
“It is He who comes after me, the thong of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.”
These things took place in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
“This is He on behalf of whom I said, ‘After me comes a Man who has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.’
“I did not recognize Him, but so that He might be manifested to Israel, I came baptizing in water.”
John testified saying, “I have seen the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven, and He remained upon Him.
“I did not recognize Him, but He who sent me to baptize in water said to me, ‘He upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining upon Him, this is the One who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.’
“I myself have seen, and have testified that this is the Son of God.”
Again the next day John was standing with two of his disciples,
and he looked at Jesus as He walked, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!”
The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
And Jesus turned and saw them following, and said to them, “What do you seek?” They said to Him, “Rabbi (which translated means Teacher), where are You staying?”
He said to them, “Come, and you will see.” So they came and saw where He was staying; and they stayed with Him that day, for it was about the tenth hour.
One of the two who heard John speak and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.
He found first his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which translated means Christ).
He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of John; you shall be called Cephas” (which is translated Peter).
The next day He purposed to go into Galilee, and He found Philip. And Jesus said to him, “Follow Me.”
Now Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter.
Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the Law and also the Prophets wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”
Nathanael said to him, “Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”
Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him, and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!”
Nathanael said to Him, “How do You know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”
Nathanael answered Him, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God; You are the King of Israel.”
Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you that I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see greater things than these.”
And He said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see the heavens opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”

When the disciples heard this, they fell face down to the ground and were terrified.
And Jesus came to them and touched them and said, “Get up, and do not be afraid.”
And lifting up their eyes, they saw no one except Jesus Himself alone.
As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, “Tell the vision to no one until the Son of Man has risen from the dead.”
And His disciples asked Him, “Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
And He answered and said, “Elijah is coming and will restore all things;
but I say to you that Elijah already came, and they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they wished. So also the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands.”
Then the disciples understood that He had spoken to them about John the Baptist.
When they came to the crowd, a man came up to Jesus, falling on his knees before Him and saying,
“Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is a lunatic and is very ill; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water.
“I brought him to Your disciples, and they could not cure him.”
And Jesus answered and said, “You unbelieving and perverted generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him here to Me.”
And Jesus rebuked him, and the demon came out of him, and the boy was cured at once.
Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not drive it out?”
And He said to them, “Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.
“But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”
And while they were gathering together in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men;
and they will kill Him, and He will be raised on the third day.” And they were deeply grieved.
When they came to Capernaum, those who collected the two-drachma tax came to Peter and said, “Does your teacher not pay the two-drachma tax?”
He said, “Yes.” And when he came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth collect customs or poll-tax, from their sons or from strangers?”
When Peter said, “From strangers,” Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are exempt.
“However, so that we do not offend them, go to the sea and throw in a hook, and take the first fish that comes up; and when you open its mouth, you will find a shekel. Take that and give it to them for you and Me.”

Matthew is writing to the Jew. His Goal is to Describe Jesus as KING
Mark is writing to Gentiles. He is writing about Jesus as a Servant!

The other Gospel attempt to write about what Jesus Said. Mark spends his time writing about what Jesus Did!
He never writes about his Childhood! Because if is difficult to show someone a lion after you have shown them LAMB!
Mark is a Contempory of Peter!
Luke is writing about Jesus as a Man. He is dissecting the story of Jesus and pointing out his humanity!
Luke is a Dr. Finley Dissecting the LIFE of Jesus in order to prove his humanity!
Humanity is the validity he needed to carry to the cross! He had to be a man so that YOU COULD be one!
John is writing about Jesus as God!
Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, He was asking His disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”
And they said, “Some say John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but still others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.”
He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
