Illus: This week we begin looking towards Christmas as a church. Every year I want to give you a new perspective into the birth of Jesus. I want to help you understand who he was from the advent series.
This year we are focusing on the book of Isaiah and the the promise of Christ. I want you to see the God who speaks. I want you to see the God who speaks into your life today.
Our God has worked supernaturally to come a be with us, know us, speak.
As we look at the prophecies, I want to show you how Jesus fulfills them. I want you to see that the words Isaiah never saw fulfilled, God fulfilled in Christ.
God did not sit quietly in heaven while the earth perished. He spoke.
God wanted it to be clear when he came, so He made the coming of his Son as simple to understand as possible.
When a virgin gives birth to a son, it is God.
God spoke to Adam, Abraham, Moses, David, Isaiah and countless others making promises of how he would restore the relationship destroyed by our sin.
God spoke through the law helping us to see what a God honoring life looked like, and also to help us see that we could not accomplish it on out own.
God was working, God’s plan from the beginning was bigger than the law, or the prophets.
God has spoken the precious words of scripture so that we would know his will.
God’s plan from the beginning was Jesus. When God sent Jesus he spoke clearest.
Jesus is the clearest way to understand and know God because Jesus is God in human flesh.
Not only that Jesus created a way for us to be in the right relationship with God by paying the penalty for our sin through dying on the cross.
But there’s more! Jesus ultimately fulfilled God’s plan by being resurected from the dead in order that we will one day be also.
One day we will be resurrected, live in the new Eden and have the perfect relationship God desired… All because of Jesus.
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 He was with God in the beginning.
3 All things were created through him, and apart from him not one thing was created that has been created.
4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men.
5 That light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it.

Illus:When God created the world he created it to know and be in a relationship with men, with you. Sin ruined all of that.

1 Long ago God spoke to the fathers by the prophets at different times and in different ways.
2 In these last days, he has spoken to us by his Son. God has appointed him heir of all things and made the universe through him.
3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact expression of his nature, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.
Heb 1
II. Jesus was born fully God and fully man.
II. Jesus was born fully God and fully man.
14 Therefore, the Lord himself will give you a sign: See, the virgin will conceive, have a son, and name him Immanuel.
A. Jesus willingly humbled himself and became fully man.

Illus: There is a beautiful picture in Jesus’ birth of what God did.
When Jesus, the God who created the universe, was born, he gave up all of the power and rights of God. Yes he was God, but in humility set it all aside.
Jesus could not supernatural change his own diaper. Jesus was completely dependent on his mother to feed him. Jesus could not cloth himself. When God came to this world, He was completely dependent on the care of His mother.
That humanness did not end as Jesus grew older. He was fully human, limited by his humility, his entire life.
That means Jesus got hungry. Jesus felt the full emotion of being a human. Jesus got physically hurt. Jesus dealt with sickness.
Even in his miracles, Jesus’ work was defined by his dependence on the Spirit of God.
Why does that matter? Why does it matter that Jesus was fully human? For Jesus to be our perfect replacement, Jesus needed to live our lives with our limitations perfectly.
6 who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be exploited.
7 Instead he emptied himself by assuming the form of a servant, taking on the likeness of humanity. And when he had come as a man,
8 he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death— even to death on a cross.
phil 2:6-
B. Jesus was fully God.
B. Jesus was fully God.
14 Therefore, the Lord himself will give you a sign: See, the virgin will conceive, have a son, and name him Immanuel.
Illus: Jesus was not created. Jesus is, was, and always will be God.
God did not create a human to die on the cross, He became a human to die on the cross.
God placed himself in Mary’s womb in the form of a man.
Jesus is God.
Follow me here. The sacrificial system was insufficient. There is no sheep equal in value to a human being. There is no bull equal in value to a human being.
God created humans different than all of his other creation. We bear his image.
But even if a human being lived a sinless life, there life would not be enough to cover the sin of all of humanity.
One perfect human could save one other human.
The sacrifice needed to be God himself to save all of us. That is why God placed himself in human weakness in Marry .
26 In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth,
27 to a virgin engaged to a man named Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary.
28 And the angel came to her and said, “Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you.”
29 But she was deeply troubled by this statement, wondering what kind of greeting this could be.
30 Then the angel told her: “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.
31 Now listen: You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus.
32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of his father David.
33 He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and his kingdom will have no end.”
34 Mary asked the angel, “How can this be, since I have not had sexual relations with a man?”
35 The angel replied to her: “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore, the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.

A. Do not miss the greatest present this Christmas, God with us.
A. Do not miss the greatest present this Christmas, God with us.
Illus: Christmas is a busy season. I know as a pastor, Christmas often gets so busy that I often lose what it is really about in the midst of the crazy.
Work parties, family, gifts, events… busy.
This Christmas I want to spend time purposely stopping and looking at God’s gift for us. Jesus.
God has given us new life, found in his humiliation by becoming a man, dying on the cross and rising from the dead.
21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”
22 Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet:
23 See, the virgin will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and they will name him Immanuel, which is translated “God is with us.”
