Thanksgiving

Colossians 3:12–17 NKJV

12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

Good Evening.. when we think about Thanksgiving we think of a lot of different things. Many memories of family and childhood. Thoughts of family traditions, special food, even football.

But as believers in Jesus we enjoy all those things but our priority is who we are giving thanks to. In our country according to Encyclopedia Britannica:

Thanksgiving Day, annual national holiday in the United States and Canada celebrating the harvest and other blessings of the past year. Americans generally believe that their Thanksgiving is modeled on a 1621 harvest feast shared by the English colonists (Pilgrims) of Plymouth and the Wampanoag people.

Certainly, not all people share our faith and for most the giving of thanks is very low on their priority list.

Paul wrote of these in For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

Thankfulness is linked to our personal knowledge of God. For us it is different. Paul wrote to the

Here Paul is giving us a to do list for our lives and especially Thanksgiving Day. On a day when meeting with let us remember to put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.

and as we are doing all that 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.

Of all people we should be the most thankful, after all God chose you before the foundation of the earth. Not because you are so good but just because He wanted to. He chose us to know Him intimately, even to rule and reign with Him one day. So be thankful for The Lord is good and His mercies endure for ever!!
