Luke 18:1-14, Prayer Parable
• Prayer should be persevering--18:1, “do not faint”
• This is a story to make a point. The point is to encourage age-long prayer.
• The content:
o The woman makes a petition
o Her petition is ignored, vv. 2-3
o The petition is granted, vv. 4-5
What motivated the man? The woman’s persistence
• As a believer, we need to understand we have to wait—patience, v. 8.
o God is always there to help, but it is in His time.
• “The faith:--v. 8—“the previously mentioned faith”
Companion parable, vv. 9-14
• Two men
• Two prayers
• Two results
*Benevolence should always be objective.
Observations:
• God rejects all external performance not matched by inner reality.
• A man may sin even by praying (all show).
• The one in humiliation that admits his sinfulness is the one rewarded.
