We Know Spiritual Security

1 John 5:18 NKJV
We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him.

By Not Sinning

1 John 3:6 NKJV
Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him.
1 John 3:9 NKJV
Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.

By The Guarding of Christ

“But” - This is the contrast to continuing in sin, rather we are guarded against such by abiding in Christ.
cf. ; ; ; ;
1 John 3:24 NKJV
Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.
John 17:12 NKJV
While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept; and none of them is lost except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.
1 Peter 1:5 NKJV
who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
Jude 24 NKJV
Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, And to present you faultless Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy,
Revelation 3:10 NKJV
Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth.

By Keeping Out of the Wicked One’s Reach

Because we do not continue in sin and are, therefore, under the protection of Christ Himself, the devil cannot touch us!
The word touch doesn’t just refer to coming into contact, but has the idea of gripping onto, clinging to.
This does’t mean that the devil won’t try to temp us ().
1 Peter 5:8 NKJV
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
It means that, in Christ, we are able to stay out of his evil clutches! (; ; ).
James 4:7–8 NKJV
Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
1 Corinthians 10:13 NKJV
No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
1 Peter 5:6–8 NKJV
Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

We Know We Are Of God

1 John 5:19 NKJV
We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one.
1
How do we know?
Romans 8:16 NKJV
The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
R
We can know whether we have done those things that the Holy Spirit inspired word says will make us children of God.
We can know if we are living in harmony with the revealed character of God.
The Holy Spirit also teaches in His inspired word what we are to believe, teach, and practice.
When we do, we know that we are of God.
Psalm 34:13 NKJV
Keep your tongue from evil, And your lips from speaking deceit.
Ephesians 4:31 NKJV
Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice.
In the proper conduct of God’s children
Titus 3:1–2 NKJV
Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men.
1 Peter 3:10–12 NKJV
For “He who would love life And see good days, Let him refrain his tongue from evil, And his lips from speaking deceit. Let him turn away from evil and do good; Let him seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their prayers; But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”
1 Pet. 3:10-12
Those who live this way are of God, those who do not belong to the wicked one!

We Know The True God

1 John 5:20 NKJV
And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.
We know that Christ has come.
We know that He gives us understanding (cf. ; ; ; ).
John 1:18 NKJV
No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.
John 14:5–9 NKJV
Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.” Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
Hebrews 2:9 NKJV
But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone.
1 John 2:3–6 NKJV
Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.
We know that Christ is the true God and eternal life is in Him!
