Bible Reading John 12: 20-26 ESV Some Greeks seek Jesus
Now among those who went up to worship at the feast were some
Greeks. So these came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in
Galilee, and asked him, “ Sir, we wish to see Jesus.” Philip went
and told Andrew; Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus. And
Jesus answered them, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to
be glorified. Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls
into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears
much fruit. Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his
life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If anyone serves me, he
must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If
anyone serves me, the Father will honour him.
Matthew 26: 26-29 ( ESV ) Institution of the Lord's Supper
Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it
broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my
body.” And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave
it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of
the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of
sins. I tell you I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until
that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom
Hymn 477 ‘ Be Thou my Vision ‘
Sermon A Prayer for the Communions ( Part 1)
‘ We wish to see Jesus’
We return to a chapter we have looked at recently in which we looked at
Jesus words in verse 32 ‘ But I when I am lifted up from the earth will draw
all men to myself ‘. This great proclamation is prompted by the arrival of some
Greeks with their famous request ‘ Sir, we wish to see Jesus’. As we prepare
for our communion season in a few days time let us make it our prayer for
the Communions that we would all see Jesus.
Looking at 3 aspects of this reading we can see that they relate to us just as
much as to these Greeks.
We are to SEEK, SERVE, FOLLOW. Jesus Christ.
Hymn 479 ‘ Love Divine all Loves excelling ’

Sermon A Prayer for the Communions ( Part 2 )
“ They recognized Him in the breaking of bread ...”
( Luke 24:35)
In this beautiful passage from Luke 24 we see the two disciples recognise
the risen Jesus as He took Bread and broke it, and shared it with them. Our
prayer for the Communions must also be that we might have that same
spirit of discernment of the presence of Jesus over the coming weekend.
