Reading –Jonah 3
Then the word of the Lord came to Jonah a second
time: 2 “Go to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim to
it the message I give you.”
3
Jonah obeyed the word of the Lord and went to
Nineveh. Now Nineveh was a very large city; it took
three days to go through it. 4 Jonah began by going a
day’s journey into the city, proclaiming, “Forty more
days and Nineveh will be overthrown.” 5 The Ninevites
believed God. A fast was proclaimed, and all of them,
from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth.
6
When Jonah’s warning reached the king of Nineveh, he
rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, covered
himself with sackcloth and sat down in the dust. 7 This is
the proclamation he issued in Nineveh:
“By the decree of the king and his nobles:
Do not let people or animals, herds or flocks, taste
anything; do not let them eat or drink. 8 But let people
and animals be covered with sackcloth. Let everyone
call urgently on God. Let them give up their evil
ways and their violence. 9 Who knows? God may yet
relent and with compassion turn from his fierce
anger so that we will not perish.”
10
When God saw what they did and how they turned
from their evil ways, he relented and did not bring on
them the destruction he had threatened.

Message from James Morrison
I'd just like to show incredible gratitude towards all that have
supported me financially and in prayer thus far in my time as the
Relay Worker in Aberdeen University. It's been an all-round
humbling experience so far. Thank you so much to everyone who
has given money to support the work of the Christian Unions.
Cheers, Jambo.
Vacancy Update
'The Kirk Session are pleased to announce that Lewis Presbytery
have granted us an additional year to search for a minister in line
with the current Presbytery plan for our church i.e. we are allowed
to call a full-time minister, unrestricted. On behalf of the
Nominating Committee we thank everyone for their continued
prayers in this matter as we receive this encouraging news, and
we continue to look to God as we progress with our search.'
Home Visits
'The Kirk Session have approved a suggestion for the
congregation to visit those elderly and housebound, ill or
bereaved, who are connected with our congregation but
are unable for whatever reason to come to church. It is
suggested that we visit them in pairs and take a bunch of
flowers or gift such as biscuits. There will be collection
box at the back of the church for donations to buy these as
and when required. If you are willing to make a visit
yourself, or know of someone who could do with a visit,
please add your name to the list at the back of the church,
or let one of the elders know.'
Communion Season
‘As we look forward to our forthcoming Autumn
Communion Season, we are pleased to announce that Rev
Dougie Wolf, Barvas Church of Scotland, will be leading all
our services. Communions start on Thursday the 5th
October, and run to Monday the 9th. As always, the Kirk
Session will be opened on Thursday night with the sole
purpose of meeting with anyone who desires to profess
their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and become
communicant members of the Congregation. If anyone
would like to discuss this matter privately and informally
before the Communions, please get in touch with any of
the elders. More details and service times will be printed in
next week’s intimations.’
