Peace on Earth: Giving Our Anxieties Away

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

In all times of anxiety we need to go to God in prayer

I’m not saying to ignore what your doctor is saying — just saying that without prayer that it is not enough!

So, I am a car guy...

work on cars for a living

feed my kids

enjoy cars

known to wax my car for a time to relax

So cars are a big part of my life....

they might be a big part of yours too

did you drive or ride in one here this morning?

Who has ever driven a car that had a light on

a warning light of some kind on the dash?

I had a car one time that looked like a Christmas tree every light was lit on my dash

what is the check engine light?

it is not the problem

it is an indicator that there is a problem

it’s warning you that it needs to go to someone who can fix it

someone who is familiar with the way that it was made to function

some of you are taking notes right now

light on dash is bad

find who knows how to fix it after church today

What is anxiety:

anxiety is the signal or indicator that is telling you that it’s time to pray

take it to the One who knows how your life is supposed to function

it’s an indicator that something needs adjusted

If you are not trailing me with this car analogy try this

IT’S BIG ENOUGH TO PRAY ABOUT

if it is on your mind

it’s on God’s heart

worried about your test results?

worried about what you’ll do for your kids for Christmas

worried about the family getting together

PRAY ABOUT IT!

does anyone struggle praying

give you anxiety?

look at how he tells us to pray

Philippians 4:6 ESV

tell Him when you are

What is anxiety?

it’s a signal to go to the one

who made you

created you

loves you

signal telling you to go pray

Peter lived like he was maybe an anxious guy by nature

1 Peter 5:6–7 ESV

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

how do we humble ourselves in prayer?

it’s an alignment issue

Satan loves to use this tactic

ever feel like you don’t have enough money to give God 10% tithe

He gave it all to you and you would give back when you had more

rather than be obedient the enemy has told you that you should wait until you have more money

SAME THING FOR PRAYER

what do I mean?

ever feel like you were too busy to pray?

it’s an alignment issue

I have learned with my finances that God can do more with 90% than I can do with 100%

I can assure you that God can do more with your first 54 minutes of busy time

than you can do with the full 60!

we must learn to align ourselves in humility

He is greater

He can accomplish more

Maybe it’s not the time thing but what is praying going to do about it?

He already knows and besides others have prayed about it

we must align ourselves to understand that HE is the One who made us and can remake us

anxiety is your indicator that you need to pray

If we invest more time in prayer first

we will find that our anxiety will decrease

we have faltered by focusing on our problem and how we can fix it

when we should be looking to God and trusting in Him

it is then that our anxieties will begin to fade because we will understand that what is out of my control is in God’s control....

that should make us fear more of what we feel like we have under control

because He can do better with the unknown that I do with what I think that I know

Let us learn to let go of the power to control

and help us learn to surrender!

We don’t always have the power to control but we always have the power to surrender

when you are feeling anxious and out of control try surrendering to God’s mighty hand

1 Peter 5:7 ESV

casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

this means that we should let it go

who has seen the movie frozen...

did you know that they made a frozen 2?

why?

because sometimes we let it go

but maybe we have picked it back up along the way

so we need to do it again!

if it’s big enough to worry about… it’s big enough to pray about

if you need to be in a relationship with God for salvation raise your hand?

if you raised your hand and you know that you need to come and pray this morning

will you come this morning?

maybe you just need to make your requests known to Him

maybe you need to come to surrender under His mighty hand
