The Lamb of God

Good morning Church. We are continuing our series called the Lamb of God. We are in our second message of the Lamb of God series that is preparing us for Christmas which if you do not know but is not about Santa, but Jesus. We are not celebrating Santamas but celebrating the Christ of Christmas. And Im not sure if you know this or not but all of the Bible is about one person, and his name is Jesus Christ.
Come up with an epic
The Bible tells a story, It often reads fictional story but it is our story. The story of mankind. It is a story of both Valor and cowardice, of both defeat and absolute victory. It is a story that shows us the original intent of a good and gracious God. Who created a man for the richest clay the Earth had to offer and then breathed his life into that man and Man became a living soul. Then He created the woman from the man and there was a coronation, where God declared them King and Queen over all the Earth, They were to be fruitful and multiply. To subdue the Earth and rule it well. They were walking statues of God like beings because It was God himself that inhabited their humanity
e a ficit is the story of heaven and Earth, it is a story of original glory when Eath was created and God prepared a Garden called Eden. Eden was a place full of life liberty and power. When man and woman was everything that any of us wish we could be. It was a place where Heaven and Earth met, where it intersected with the Spiritual beings of heaven and the newsest of Gods creation mankind walked in the fullness of who God was. They had perfect communion with God.
They walked with perfect peace, perfect beauty and harmony and there was no death, this was God’s original plan. But there were stipulations on their peace and pros[perity, there was a boundry marker, the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.
God prepared a garden in Eden (return to this Garden of Gethsemene) It was lost and restored in a Garden. And Eden was an intersection of heaven and Earth. Humans and the Animal Kingdom are not the only players in this game. God has lived for an eternity and he didn’t just start creating stuff thousand years ago. There is another realm that is spiritual in nature and not Physical matter. There are angels, seraphim and cherubim. And Eden was the place where Heaven and earth collided.
But there was a coup, a rebellion, there was mutiny and one of the leaders of the Angel Armies named Lucifer, Son of the morning led an all out rebellion, causing millions of angels to join his ranks. And I believe the rebellion took place at the creation of mankind. I believe that when Lucifer saw the beauty, power and God like status of Adam and Eve, that this filled Him with jealously. And so there was a rebellion on two fronts a rebellion of the Angels and by decieving Eve and AdAM SINNING WITH HIS EYES WIDE OPEN, THE HUMAN RACE JOINED THE DEVIL in this rebellion. Adam obviously did not understand the full ramifications of his decision. I mean He knew that God had said that in the day they eat of it they would die, but He watched His wife eat it and she didn’t immediately drop dead, so He joined in and created a rebellion that has lasted to this very day. They did not understand that the death was a spiritual death, and the betrayal would lead to surrendering their rights to rule to the devil.
So many people question God’s existence because they look around at all the suffering, death, the addiction, the marred marriages, the dashed hopes and dreams of so many. The death would not just follow Adam but it would follow His descendants as well. And that is where we find ourselves. The story is not over, and your story is not over as well. You see The bible tells not just a story of defeat but it is a story about redemption. Redemption buying back something that was lost,
You see this mornming we have a room full of POW’S. Prisoners of war, but God has paid the ransom for your release.
In fact God foreseen the fall, he foreseen the rebellion, He told them that the wage of sin is death, and as the book of Revelation describes Jesus the Lamb slain before the foundations of the world. In eternities past before the World was ever set in motion the counsel of God met in council and decided that one day the Son of God would come and ransom the world, paying the wages of sin with his own death by which many would recieve life throught that death
Rememberwhat God told Adam, In the day you eat, you will die. That was a spiritual; death that led to a Physical daeth that would result in an eternal death
Fast Forward with me to the Book of John
So many people today question Gods goodness, power or even His existence when they look at the amount of pain, suffering and death
John 1:24–29 ESV
24 (Now they had been sent from the Pharisees.) 25 They asked him, “Then why are you baptizing, if you are neither the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?” 26 John answered them, “I baptize with water, but among you stands one you do not know, 27 even he who comes after me, the strap of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.” 28 These things took place in Bethany across the Jordan, where John was baptizing. 29 The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
John 1:24-
Now rewind, back to the beginning. We looked at the fall of man last week and showed tyou the very first proto gospel. The Seed that was promised to the Woman, a saviour that would crush the head of Satan. Remember none of this caught God off guard, just as none of your failures catch him off guard. Before the foundation of the World He had a built in plan of redemption.
John 1:25–28 ESV
25 They asked him, “Then why are you baptizing, if you are neither the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?” 26 John answered them, “I baptize with water, but among you stands one you do not know, 27 even he who comes after me, the strap of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.” 28 These things took place in Bethany across the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
But that redemption would come at the highest price possible.... not Gold- all of the Gold in Ft Knox cannot pay the wages of sin. All the riches of Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates and Warren Buffet could not pay the debt of the most pitiful soul much less that of the entire world
Throughout all of the Holy Scriptures there is a Scarlet thread of redemption of Blood sacrifice. More specifically a slain lamb. There are foreshadows of the lamb, there are types, symbols f the lamb.
And we examined the promised
Genesis 3:21 ESV
21 And the Lord God made for Adam and for his wife garments of skins and clothed them.
Genesis 3:
The Lord made the very first blood sacrifice and covered their nakedness with the skin s of these animals. And listen He would make the final sacrifice.
Then we move to the next chapter in ch 4 and we see the very first children of Adam and Eve, Cain and Able
Genesis 4:2–4 ESV
2 And again, she bore his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, and Cain a worker of the ground. 3 In the course of time Cain brought to the Lord an offering of the fruit of the ground, 4 and Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat portions. And the Lord had regard for Abel and his offering,
Gen 4:2
Real Quick
Abel was a keeper of what church? Sheep. And Cain was a worker of the ground. And here Abel brings the Firstborn of his flock and Cain brings some vegstables of the ground. Question why is it that Able was accepted and Cain rejected? This is the first example of true religion and false religion. Abel obviouslyt learned something from his parents… that God will only accept a blood sacrifice. The firstborn of the flock. But Cain brings his vegestables. Cain worked harder for those vegestables than Able did for his lamb. One was done with work, sweat, determination. But the other was done in faith. One said look at me God how hard I’ve worked, the other said nothing in my hand I bring simply to thy cross I cling!
You say well why didn’t God accept Cains? Well because Cain brought a product that came from the Ground that just in the previous chapter God had cursed
Genesis 3:17–18 ESV
17 And to Adam he said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life; 18 thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field.
Genesis 3:17-18
“Because you have listened to the voice of your wife
and have eaten of the tree
of which I commanded you,
‘You shall not eat of it,’
cursed is the ground because of you;
John 1:29 ESV
29 The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life;
18  thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you;
and you shall eat the plants of the field.
it was a tree that brought the curse, and because of that the ground was cursed.
The Bible says in Isaiah that our righteousness is as filthy rags. One man is acting in faith, the other man is trying to perform. One offered a product that had been cursed, the other brought a blood sacrifice. By the way look at the second part of verse 18
Thorns and thistles the Earth would bring. Thorns are a sign of Adams sin. Do you remember what the crown was made of when they slammed it down on the Lords head before the crucifiction. It was a crown of thorns. The soldiers did it out of spite, but it was a sign that this man had come to reverse the curse. And when they crown him with the thorns, the crown of Adam, the curse of Adam, would be paid in full with the sacrifice of jesus!!
Genesis 22:1–14 ESV
1 After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 2 He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” 3 So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and his son Isaac. And he cut the wood for the burnt offering and arose and went to the place of which God had told him. 4 On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place from afar. 5 Then Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; I and the boy will go over there and worship and come again to you.” 6 And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son. And he took in his hand the fire and the knife. So they went both of them together. 7 And Isaac said to his father Abraham, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” He said, “Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” 8 Abraham said, “God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So they went both of them together. 9 When they came to the place of which God had told him, Abraham built the altar there and laid the wood in order and bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10 Then Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to slaughter his son. 11 But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 12 He said, “Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.” 13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son. 14 So Abraham called the name of that place, “The Lord will provide”; as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”
Genesis 22:1
Element in Abraham sacrifice
Take your one and only son-
the third day- Abraham was trrusting for a ressurection
Carrrying the Wood and laid it on the back of Isaac- Carried his cross
V7 Father I see fire and the wood but where is the lamb- This speaks of the garden- Father if there be any other way! But nevertheless nmot my will but thine be done!
God will provide for himself a lamb
v9 Abraham was able to bound him. Isaac is a full grown man, AbrahAM WAS AN OLD MAN
v12 SEEING YOU HAVE NOT WITHELD YOUR SON YOUR ONLY SON
V 13 aBRAHAM LIFTED HIS EYES AND
v14 ABRAHAM CALLED THE NAME OF THE PLACE jEHOVAH JIREH- THE LORD WILL PROVIDE
In thinking about this passage I think about peoples ideas about religion
V 18 in your offspring all the nations of the earth shall be blessed
Conclusion....
The assurance of your salvation

Exodus 12
Exodus 12
Exodus 12:5 ESV
5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male a year old. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats,
This lamb had to be spotless!
This speaks of the sinless nature of the Lord!
Hebrews 9:
Hebrews 9:13–14 ESV
13 For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the sprinkling of defiled persons with the ashes of a heifer, sanctify for the purification of the flesh, 14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.
1 Peter”:
1 Peter 1:18–19 ESV
18 knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.
You have a slide for the above scripture
The Satsifying Lamb
Exodus 12
Exodus 12:7–8 ESV
7 “Then they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they eat it. 8 They shall eat the flesh that night, roasted on the fire; with unleavened bread and bitter herbs they shall eat it.
They had to eat the flesh of this Lamb
Jesus had this strange passage
john 6:47-
John 6:47–53 ESV
47 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. 48 I am the bread of life. 49 Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. 50 This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. 51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.” 52 The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” 53 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.
JESUS IS THE SAVING LAMB
EXODUS 12
Exodus 12:7 ESV
7 “Then they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they eat it.
WHY DID THE SACRIFICE HAVE THE BE BURNED, AND IF THIS IS AN ACCURATE SHADOW, OR TYPE OF CHRIST, WHY WASN’T HE BURNED LIKE THE OLD TESTAMENT SACRIFICES?
(9) The purpose of the burnt offering was to make atonement for the sin of the offerer and thus to gain God’s acceptance. The offerer laid his hands upon the animal, identifying with it.31 More specifically, he identified his sins with the animal. Thus, when the animal was slain (by the hand of the offerer) it died for the sins of the offerer. It is not so much for the offerer’s specific sins (which are dealt with by other sacrifices), but rather for the offerer’s general state of sinfulness.32
THE HIGH PRIEST WAS STILL GUILTY OF SIN, SO HE WOULD NOT JUST LAY HIS HANDS ON THE SLAIN ANIMAL BUT WOULD PRESS HIS BODY INTO THE ANIMAL AS A TRANSFER OF HIS OWN SINS
THE ONE OFFERING WAS ALSO SINFUL
FIRE CONSUMES, FIRE PURIFIES, FIRE REPRESENTS GODS JUDGMENT OF SIN

Ezekiel 22:31

31 Therefore I have poured out my indignation upon them. I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath. I have returned their way upon their heads, declares the Lord GOD.”

Now this is where you have to piut your big boy pants on, God is a God of Law, a God of Order. And the law had to be put in place because of trangressions, sin, lawlessness. And in the the old Testament A Covenant was placed between God and his people. He gave them system, of laws and a system for animal sacrifices by which they could be forgiven by Holy God. because the Word of Gid says trhat the wages of sin is death. Therefore in order to presever God justice and provide a way of mercy in forgivness he implemented the system of sacrifices.
So why did the animals have to be killed and then burned. It was a complete purifying even of the High Priest
Jesus was the Lamb of God, the Sacrifice, but now we have a New High Priest, the Lord was perfect and sinless
The Burnt sacrifce was completely consumed with fire, and it would have to be offered year after year after year. With the high Priest laying his hand on the animal as it died as a symbol that even the high Priests sin had to be taken away, animal burned, but temporary. it simply pointed day after day to the one Lamb that God would send
PAVLOC- IN THE LATE 1800S THERE WAS A MAN BY THE NAME OF
Ivan Petrovich Pavlov was a Russian physiologist
He inserted a small test tube into the cheek of each dog to measure saliva when the dogs were fed (with a powder made from meat).
Pavlov predicted the dogs would salivate in response to the food placed in front of them, but he noticed that his dogs would begin to salivate whenever they heard the footsteps of his assistant who was bringing them the food.
Pavlov (1902) started from the idea that there are some things that a dog does not need to learn. For example, dogs don’t learn to salivate whenever they see food. This reflex is ‘hard-wired’ into the dog. So the dog had learned an association between the metronome and the food and a new behavior had been learned. Because this response was learned (or conditioned), it is called a conditioned response (and also known as a Pavlovian response). The neutral stimulus has become a conditioned stimulus.
In behaviorist terms, food is an unconditioned stimulus and salivation is an unconditioned response. (i.e., a stimulus-response connection that required no learning).
Unconditioned Stimulus (Food) > Unconditioned Response (Salivate)
In his experiment, Pavlov used a metronome as his neutral stimulus. By itself the metronome did not elecit a response from the dogs.
Neutral Stimulus (Metronome) > No Conditioned Response
