I have been doing a lot of praying, introspection and re evaluation lately…
I have been doing a lot of praying, introspection and re evaluation lately…
It’s that time of year.
This past year has been pretty tough on us...
While it has been a year of tremendous blessing
Also been a year of struggles!
Tests have taken their tolls on us.
I have not come to celebrate the tough times but to tell you I see a developing pattern in the chaos!
2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
James 1.3
3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
What? This makes no sense!
Joy in temptations?
That’s got to be the “Hard KJV”?
Greek-English Lexicon
Temptations: enticement to sin
Divers: various kinds or modes, diversified or manifold
Fall: move toward, fall against or fall into a hazard
Joy: experience gladness
Count: supervisory capacity, lead, guide
Brother: those close to you in affinity, membership or association
My interpretation of James 1:2
My friends in the common cause of Righteousness, lead and guide others with gladness as you move toward and fall into different kinds of spiritual enticements to sin!
Get the picture of a soldier in the heat of the battle, berserk with blood lust charging into the front lines of the enemy with no thought…
It’s that time of year.
This past year has been pretty tough on us...
While it has been a year of tremendous blessing
Also been a year of struggles!
Tests have taken their tolls on us.
Ya! I don’t like that!
Maybe other versions will say something different?
English Standard Version Chapter 1
2 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds,
The New International Version Chapter 1
2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,
Young’s Literal Translation Chapter 1
2 All joy count it, my brethren, when ye may fall into temptations manifold;
Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides.
The New Revised Standard Version Faith and Wisdom
2 My brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of any kind, consider it nothing but joy,
That makes no sense!
I hate trials...
I hate painful moments...
WHY?!
3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
Let’s get our Greek-English Lexicon back out...
Faith: that which evokes trust and confidence
Trying: process of determining the genuineness of something, test or the means of testing. Without alloy
Alloy = compound with two or more substances creating a less or more costly material!
Metallurgy term - take iron and add different metals to it and make it softer, less costly.
In context - something that is trying to be added to your faith to make you less costly, lesser value, a cheaper produce!
Worketh: achieve a specific goal
Patience: the capacity to hold out or bear up in the face of difficulty; patience, endurance, fortitude, steadfastness, perseverance
Knowing this: the arrival at the knowledge of something.
My interpretation:
Understanding that God is working to achieve a specific goal in your life using a process to test your faith, allowing the enemy to try and mix doubt into your trust and confidence in God. This process will increase your capacity to endure with steadfast assurance in God!
Kill a holy cow: Never pray for patience!
Never pray for patience!
Well it’s no wonder you can’t endure… you keep allowing doubt to be mixed with the stifled trust you have in God!
First: Joy in the temptation...
Second: trail brings patience!
*********
Why did James have joy?
Not a masochistic lover of pain and hurt…
Why dis James have joy?
He understood why the trial was important.
Because of the expected end!
You have to be intentional about joy...
This is what Jesus was saying in
12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.
If you want to be successful you are going to have to make it happen...
If you are going to move into 2020 and it be more then just another year it will be because you are patiently allowing God to work in you his good pleasure!
God has a plan!
11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
So a test is all about patience and patience about an expected end!
Conclusion:
Things about test… always done in a controlled environment!
They don’t test a car for the 1st time on the street...
It is tested in the lab!
They don’t test new cancer meds on anyone who will volunteer...
First: mice in a carefully controlled environment!
Why?
Imagine the chaos on the street if the 1st time a new car was driven was on the street.
Imagine the issues if the new drug came straight off the designers desk, into production and into sick bodies.
Tests are only given in controlled environments so the perfect result can be obtained!
Some of you have self-inflicted wounds that you are blaming on God, the church, me
- but the issue is you have not allowed God to work patience in you!
The beauty and power of how God set this up is that the a tool to teach you patience can come from anywhere…
The church, church family, pastor - BUT if you will allow God to.
If you will allow patience to work in you - THEN healing and purpose come into your life!
Agent of Crucifix
With patience comes healing!

3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
