Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord.

Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.

8 Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.

Patience Defined

Patience has two understandings

Long-Tempered (Emotionally) - with people

“Endure” or “Patience” - Stay Put/Stand Fast (Physically) - with situations

Patience Needed

The Laborers were Cheated

Oppression

Oppression is a real thing that people in America have experienced, but today, I truly believe that it has been largely exaggerated and used an excuse poor behavior and choices.

You cannot blame every bad experience on Oppression

Note: Prisons are filled with people that lacked patience at a critical moment

I could not find a job so I got involved in street crime (theft, robbery)

I got mad, so I handled the situation myself (murder)

Note: Some of the people that James was writing to had been cheated…James tells them be patient!

Don’t fight with guns and bullets, fight with Prayer and Fasting

Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.

44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye?

Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: 13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.

15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters.

16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.

The Lord is Coming

Christian waiting is not waiting for something, but for someone.

“Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord...”

Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.

Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

Some Oppression and Injustice will never be settled on Earth, but when Jesus comes back…He will Judge in Righteousness!

And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.

13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.

15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

Patience Repeated

is not the first time we find Patience mentioned in James...

My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; 3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

Repeated Themes in Scripture are never an accident.
