Proverbs 29:18 ESV
18 Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law.

Explain: What real vision is

Incorrect interpretation:

· Summit is seeking a Vision: That is a declaration of our objectives intended to guide our internal decisions.
· Simply put, “no prophetic vision” leads to failure to see opportunities.
· And “cast off restraint” means we would be undisciplined and chaotic, thereby leading to eternal destruction.

Correct interpretation:

Vision: חָזוֹן (ḥāzôn); Aram. הֱזוּ (hĕzû). n. masc. vision. Divine revelation in the form of a vision or a word from God.[1]
So, this means, where God’s word is not proclaimed we will be unrestrained or ungovernable. Lacking direction; either no or not following godly leadership.

Amplifying the interpretation by use of the Contrast:

18 Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law.
If we don’t keep God’s Word in our hearts & minds we are happy or unhappy?

Exemplify: Examples of a lack of vision

Eli’s time—no open vision,
1 Samuel 3:1 ESV
1 Now the boy Samuel was ministering to the Lord in the presence of Eli. And the word of the Lord was rare in those days; there was no frequent vision.
Asa’s days—Israel without a teaching priest ()
2 Chronicles 15:3 ESV
3 For a long time Israel was without the true God, and without a teaching priest and without law,

Apply:

If we fail to hear or head God’s Word we will:

1. Be ungovernable & chaotic = unsaved
2. Our world will deteriorate = unsuccessful
3. Be unhappy (not blessed) = unhappy

But if we hear and head we will obtain:

1. Salvation
2. Successful Living
3. True Happiness

Answer this hard question:

· Is it your fault that some people perish for lack of the Word?
· Does you current blessings/happiness reflect your relationship to the Word of God?
