Working out of a joy-filled marriage
Intro:
The Be-Level
King Saul had it all: charisma to gather people around him, he looked like a leader, in the beginning he even had humility; he had a lot of success in the beginning; ultimately he failed
Then you have David
What made the difference?
David worked out of a relationship to God
Closely related to working out of a relationship to God, is working out of a relationship to your spouse
1 Tim 3
The easy road: Just don’t do wrong
Ministry and Marriage:
What you need to do is seek the kingdom of God first and all these things will be added unto you.
Build the church, and everything else will fall into place even a blessed marriage.
So have a strong marriage to have a strong ministry.
In other words, make sure you work hard at the ministry and as long as you don’t have an affair or are into porn, you’re ok — also not be married to someone who complains (especially publicly) or threatens to leave you.
We are called to more than just that
We must make our marriages our first ambition: it is our loudest Gospel message
The top of our to-do list, the top of our job description is spouse
We need to make choices consistently that demonstrate to your spouse that he or she is loved Church firing policy
We are more than best friends with common goals, we are more than coworkers for Christ
Our Three priorities:
Spend time alone with God
Invest in your marriage
Everything else is third: we often try to fit our spouse around our ministry, but we need to fit our ministry around our spouse
