INTRO:
School House Rock - wheeling out the TV (Shot heard round the world)
April 18th, 1775
April 18th, 1775
Day of an important message
Could have changed the modern day America had it not been carried out
Paul Revere and 40 other riders inform patriots of the British movements
Famously embellished 100 years later by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow in a poem
Didn’t shout “The British are coming”
Without the carrying of the message the destruction of the US would have likely occurred
Followers of Christ have been charged with a similar message

Making Disciples by Sharing the Gospel

Read
The message we carry is the Good News, the Gospel
Therefore = because of what was said earlier
Why are we going and making disciples?
Matthew 28:18 ESV
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Jesus has all power and authority, not questionable, He overcame death, Hell, and the grave
absorbed God’s wrath and gives His righteousness to believers
Psalm 110:1–6 ESV
1 The Lord says to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool.” 2 The Lord sends forth from Zion your mighty scepter. Rule in the midst of your enemies! 3 Your people will offer themselves freely on the day of your power, in holy garments; from the womb of the morning, the dew of your youth will be yours. 4 The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind, “You are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.” 5 The Lord is at your right hand; he will shatter kings on the day of his wrath. 6 He will execute judgment among the nations, filling them with corpses; he will shatter chiefs over the wide earth.
Psalm 110:1-
Hebrews 1:
Hebrews 1:1–3 ESV
1 Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. 3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
Under that authority....Go make disciples to all the nations!
“you WILL be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Start local then expand
Acts 1:8 ESV
8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Pocahontas - the ripples (Someone has to start them)

Share the Gospel, Now What?

Matthew 28:19–20 ESV
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:19-20
Make disciples - sharing the Gospel
Baptizing them - public declaration and covenant with a local body (plugged in)
Teach them - discipleship, growing in godliness (no one grows out of this stage)
Teaching is growing in your knowledge, depth, and love for the Lord
Teach the scriptures unapologetically
2 Timothy 4:2–4 ESV
2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. 3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, 4 and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.
2 Timothy 4:
Teach community - the importance of doing life together
Hebrews 10:24–25 ESV
24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
Hebrews 10:

Remember That Christ is With You

Matthew 28:20 ESV
teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
The God who has all authority and power in heaven and earth is WITH YOU!
Romans 8:31–35 ESV
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?
Romans 8:31-
What if I don’t know what to say?
Luke 12:11–12 ESV
And when they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not be anxious about how you should defend yourself or what you should say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.”
Jesus promised the Holy Spirit to His disciples
Acts 1:8 ESV
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
John 16:7 ESV
Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.
Acts 1:8 ESV
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Through the Holy Spirit you will be witnesses
END
Read Why is the message of the Gospel so important?
Read Peter feared others and for his own life; What has hindered you from being a witness for Christ?
Knowing that Jesus has all authority and that He is with you, how does that encourage you to share the Gospel with those around you?
