Sermon Tone Analysis

INTRODUCTION:

Long lay the World in Sin and error pinning… A lyric in the Hymn “O’ Holy Night”

Christmas doesn’t just have implications for some people but all!

It all goes back to beginning of everything we see!

Sin entered the World and death entered the world!

God created - perfect, Adam and Eve, One command, On Tree

The Serpent and the Woman

The Fall - shame, broken relationships, natural distasters, suffering, etc...

What we see today goes back to that day!

What is there to celebrate?

God does not desire to just destroy us but he still has good plans for us for his glory!

He has brought to us the solution for our misery and sin!

He has brought life into a dying world!

He has dealt a death shot the serpent!

My prayer today is that all present will trust in God who provides redemption from sin and the Serpent for his glory!

Let’s look at two revelations concerning being redeemed from Satan’s Tyranny.

I. THE DIVINE DISSENSION (15a)

A. The God Ordained War

I will put hostility:

I will put - (Qal, imperf.) to cause to be in a certain state or relationship

What is to come has been placed intentionally by God according to his will and for his glory!

. . . the one who works out everything in agreement with the purpose of his will . . .

(speaking of our Salvation and adoption into the family of God)

Hostility - hatred, animosity, deep seated ill-will, enmity

This term describes the feelings leading to war or murder!

This isn’t casual dislike, but war-producing feelings

God as acted to bring hostility according to his own purpose!

We may think, “ I thought God brought peace on earth?”

Their is a battle that we are born into - Good and evil

B. The God Ordained Objective

Between you - The Serpent

This is not a mere snake, this is the one who possessed the snake - Satan

This is the adversary!

This is one who was thrown down from heaven: 18 He said to them, “I watched Satan fall from heaven like lightning.

He previously had been in heaven, but is no longer.

He has an army of angels with him (Revelation 12:9)

And the woman - immediate context= Eve

Though Satan had no control over Eve, he did tempt her and lead her to question to Word and intent of God!

She fell and Adam followed her in disobeying God — which is Satan’s goal!

He doesn’t want God receiving glory through his creation!

He doesn’t want people walking closely with God - he wants what is God’s

We know that the Eve’s sin cost her the presence of God in the Garden, it cost her easy birth, but she was committed and believed God!

She thanked God for her son - “I have a male child with the LORD’s (Yahweh’s) help.”

there seems to have been repentance from Adam and Eve!

There will be war between these two but not only them but their offspring.

The term can be singular or plural — literally seed

This is interesting one because of the physical implications of seed is that it comes from a man and the progeny normally counted according to the man but not here.

This is pointing to something different!

The offspring of Satan speaks of those who join him in rebellion and disobedience to God!

The Devil is called the god of this world and is said to children - 44 You are of your father the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires.

He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him.

When he tells a lie, he speaks from his own nature, because he is a liar and the father of lies

They are blinded by the God of this world and live under his rule - 2 Corinthians 4:4

The Offspring of the woman is singular in its application at the end of this verse- he will (15)

The Seed of the Woman - It also points to those who are a part of the line of repent-ers like Eve ( Thanks God for her son - term used in Yahweh (LORD) - covenant name.

Those who are not under the rule of Satan but the loving rule of God!

Those who worship Yahweh as Eve did: 25 Adam was intimate with his wife again, and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth, for she said, “God has given me another child in place of Abel, since Cain killed him.”

26 A son was born to Seth also, and he named him Enosh.

At that time people began to call on the name of the LORD.

(Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved - )

Much like those in the line of Abraham are those who believe - who are sons by faith ()

There is a war raging in the spiritual realm that is seen in the physical!

It is seen in our politics, education, entertainment , business, and society as a whole and it is sent from God!

God was not willing to let us go silently into the same doom that was prepared for Satan and his demons — he doesn’t desire us to be at peace with Satan and the powers of darkness!

41 “Then he will also say to those on the left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels!

This is a defense mechanism that exists in us!

We are not to partner with the world because we do not belong to the God of this world!

4 You adulterous people!

Don’t you know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God?

So whoever wants to be the friend of the world becomes the enemy of God.

Satan in turn seeks to devour (), to steal, to kill, and destroy (), to steal glory from God by inflicting suffering (Job).

He has a whole set of schemes and systems to see us fall!

But God has given us what we need to be faithful in the fight!

This fight is for our redemption not our destruction!

The War on Drugs - initiative of President Richard Nixon, “Say No To Drugs” campaign of Ronald Reagan, and continued efforts of the DEA (Created in the 1970’s) - initiated because of the havoc and irreparable damage on families and soceity - the legal nature — we started a war because the opposite option is lethal - we don’t want our kids on something that will kill them — God doesn’t want us at peace with Satan because he desires we not meet the same end as him and for us to live blessed lives for his glory!

II.

THE DETERMINED DESTRUCTION (15b)

A. The Fatal Wound

Like Isaiah’s “Immanuel” prophecy in , this prophetic word spoken by God to the serpent, and recorded for our own benefit has a double fulfillment.

There does seem to be a universal hesitancy and disdain to snakes, we do see snakes constantly licking the ground but this means far more than this.

It points to the purposes of God beyond the life and family of Eve and immediate family and the serpent and those other serpents born after him.

The woman’s seed - this is normally talked about only with a man.

Progeny is normally carried with that family name!

Just as “the virgin would conceive” () and here are talking about the same woman and the same baby as the ultimate fulfillment!

Mary is the mother of the ultimate “male child” and she is the one to whom a baby was born with no man’s involvement a true virgin!
