Introduction
You have herd a simple phrase from me all year “Makeing new and Better Diciples” But what exactly does that mean, I have explained it throughout the year but this morning I want to look in depth at what it means
18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Making New (v. 18-18)
Making New (v. 18-18)
All authority
Christ proved his deity in the reserection here he made a clear claim to universal authority given to him by his father. He had claimed this authority over death
18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.
Christ has all authoruty given to him and he is now seated at the right hand of the father until he returnes to earth and exercises his authority as the messiah/king over all the earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matt 28:
You go and make diciples of all nations..
What is a diciple
in short it is a folwer of someone
we are not to make diciples of us but diciples of Christ.
the word is only used once in the hebrew where it means one to be taught or trained
16 Bind up the testimony; seal the teaching among my disciples.
8 And the daughter of Zion is left like a booth in a vineyard, like a lodge in a cucumber field, like a besieged city.
but it is used 267 times in greek 5 different forms
The ultimate point is we need to go and make diciples
The ultimate point is we need to go and make diciples
Notice it says GO
it does not say sit in the church pew and hope people show up
it comands us to Go and make diciples of Christ
make diciples
He goes on past just making diciples but that we need to make them of all nations
8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
We are to make diciples in our local area, our nation and all the earth
notice however the order here
local comes first
natinal comes secound
ends of the earth comes third
The american church has simply failed at the local and natinal in the name of the uttermost ends of the earth
When we have a large missions budget but are doing nothing locally we have a problum
We have discussed this briefly on Sunday nights but there are more unsaved people in America than there are in many of the worlds countries(not all) yet we put our focus on the world instead of our own backyard.
Not only are we to be witnesses we are to Baptize and we are to Baptize in the name of the father son and the holy spirit
Not only are we to be witnesses we are to Baptize and we are to Baptize in the name of the father son and the holy spirit
baptize them
Baptizim
every obsevence of Baptisim in the book of acts is followed directly after salvation
there was never a waiting period to prove that the new beliver was going to persevere all such restrictions on the basis of culture or proven testemony ar forign to scripture
obviously church membership is another story
it is also worth noting why we follow single imersion...
not one point does the Bible ever show baptizim in forms of sprinkeling or pouring it mentions going down into the water
other forms of Baptisim were started in church history out of convieniance but not out of Biblical principal
So we know we are to make more diciples of christ and Baptize them
So thats where it stops and now they are saved and Baptized they just come to chuch and serve faithfully for the rest of their lives right?
Obviously not lets go on
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
This is the road of dicilpleship it does not end at salvation, baptisim or even Church membership!
Christ tells them to teach them to observe all things that he has taught them
This comand includes going discipling, Bptizing, and teaching
says
21 Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.”
1 Now there were in the church at Antioch prophets and teachers, Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen a lifelong friend of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. 2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” 3 Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off. 4 So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus.
This involves
Presenting the gospel
Baptizing those who receive it
teaching converts to observe all things given by Jesues
This is the area that many churches leave out. Preaching alone does not work
I am with you always
Christ finishes with the promice of his presence two factors are included here,
His presence
This is simply a fact of the believers position
20 In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.
27 To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
When we pray things like
“God be with us today”
or
“Lord be with the missinaries”
we ignore the fact that Christ promices to be with us always
16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.
John 14
all theese verses make it clear that He is with us all the time so when we ask him to be with us we show a form of unbelief, he has promiced to be with us.
either we believe what he said “behold I am with you all days” or we are ignoring what he said and continueing to ask him for something he has promiced us as a part of salvation
either we believe what he said “behold I am with you all days” or we are ignoring what he said and continueing to ask him for something he has promiced us as a part of salvation

Even to the end of the age
This is an emphisis that Christ being with them does not end with the 11 but continues to the end of the age
Christ was not only with the 11 but is with us today
Application
we always want to meet people where they are but we do not want to leave them there
I challenge you to be a people that disires to see others and yorurself dicipled.
Making beter (V. 20)
Teach the to observe all things
observe all things
17 And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted.
16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them.
