Matthew 2:1–12 NASB95
1 Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, 2 “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.” 3 When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 Gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born. 5 They said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea; for this is what has been written by the prophet: 6 And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, Are by no means least among the leaders of Judah; For out of you shall come forth a Ruler Who will shepherd My people Israel.’ ” 7 Then Herod secretly called the magi and determined from them the exact time the star appeared. 8 And he sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the Child; and when you have found Him, report to me, so that I too may come and worship Him.” 9 After hearing the king, they went their way; and the star, which they had seen in the east, went on before them until it came and stood over the place where the Child was. 10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. 11 After coming into the house they saw the Child with Mary His mother; and they fell to the ground and worshiped Him. Then, opening their treasures, they presented to Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. 12 And having been warned by God in a dream not to return to Herod, the magi left for their own country by another way.

NASB95
Can you really imagine the time in which Jesus was born?
ry His mother; and they fell to the ground and worshiped Him. Then, opening their treasures, they presented to Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
5 They said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea; for this is what has been written by the prophet: 6 ‘And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, Are by no means least among the leaders of Judah; For out of you shall come forth a Ruler Who will shepherd My people Israel.’ ” 7 Then Herod secretly called the magi and determined from them the exact time the star appeared.
2 “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.”
Can you really imagine the time in which Jesus was born?
3 When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
For us now after being able to see so clearly that promise and the fulfillment of the promise through and by Christ Jesus it is hard to even imagine how it would have felt to walk in the sandals of those people who lived with Jesus.
4 Gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born.
With so much pressure and promise.
5 They said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea; for this is what has been written by the prophet:
Starting in the Garden.
6 ‘And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah,
God lets the woman your seed shall bruise the head of the serpent.
Are by no means least among the leaders of Judah;
Your seed.. a male child
For out of you shall come forth a Ruler
Then he tells Abram in thee all the families of the earth shall be blessed and I will make a great nation out of thee,
Who will shepherd My people Israel.’ ”
God became to drop hints. Through his prophets of the day that one would come and rule and make all the wrong things right.
7 Then Herod secretly called the magi and determined from them the exact time the star appeared.
He will be King and the Son of God
8 And he sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the Child; and when you have found Him, report to me, so that I too may come and worship Him.”
NASB95
9 After hearing the king, they went their way; and the star, which they had seen in the east, went on before them until it came and stood over the place where the Child was.
6 “But as for Me, I have installed My King Upon Zion, My holy mountain.” 7 “I will surely tell of the decree of the Lord: He said to Me, ‘You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.
10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy.
Can you imagine? Those that would truly His. Longing seeking
11 After coming into the house they saw the Child with Mary His mother; and they fell to the ground and worshiped Him. Then, opening their treasures, they presented to Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
NASB95
12 And having been warned by God in a dream not to return to Herod, the magi left for their own country by another way.
3 Therefore He will give them up until the time When she who is in labor has borne a child. Then the remainder of His brethren Will return to the sons of Israel. 4 And He will arise and shepherd His flock In the strength of the Lord, In the majesty of the name of the Lord His God. And they will remain, because at that time He will be great To the ends of the earth.
Can you really imagine the time in which Jesus was born?
And Isaiah says
For us now after being able to see so clearly that promise and the fulfillment of the promise through and by Christ Jesus it is hard to even imagine how it would have felt to walk in the sandals of those people who lived with Jesus.
NASB95
With so much pressure and promise.
10 Behold, the Lord God will come with might, With His arm ruling for Him. Behold, His reward is with Him And His recompense before Him. 11 Like a shepherd He will tend His flock, In His arm He will gather the lambs And carry them in His bosom; He will gently lead the nursing ewes.
Starting in the Garden.
NASB95
God lets the woman your seed shall bruise the head of the serpent.
1 “Behold, I am going to send My messenger, and he will clear the way before Me. And the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple; and the messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight, behold, He is coming,” says the Lord of hosts.
Your seed.. a male child
Then later he says
Then he tells Abram in thee all the families of the earth shall be blessed and I will make a great nation out of thee,
NASB95
God became to drop hints. Through his prophets of the day that one would come and rule and make all the wrong things right.
2 “But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings; and you will go forth and skip about like calves from the stall. 3 “You will tread down the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day which I am preparing,” says the Lord of hosts. 4 “Remember the law of Moses My servant, even the statutes and ordinances which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel. 5 “Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord.
He will be King and the Son of God
And these are just a few promises of the fact that he is returning and that he will come.
Psalm 2:6–7 NASB95
6 “But as for Me, I have installed My King Upon Zion, My holy mountain.” 7 “I will surely tell of the decree of the Lord: He said to Me, ‘You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.

No books or words from the book.
He said to Me, ‘You are My Son,
Just a struggle
Today I have begotten You.
Just a people holding on to a word.
Can you imagine? Those that would truly His. Longing seeking
The people struggle in silent. But in this silence there was hope.
Micah 5:3–4 NASB95
3 Therefore He will give them up until the time When she who is in labor has borne a child. Then the remainder of His brethren Will return to the sons of Israel. 4 And He will arise and shepherd His flock In the strength of the Lord, In the majesty of the name of the Lord His God. And they will remain, Because at that time He will be great To the ends of the earth.
says
And because of hope there was a fight.
And Isaiah says
3 Therefore He will give them up until the time
In the time of Malachi, the Persian ruled over the Jewish people from about 400 bc till around 330 bc.
When she who is in labor has borne a child.
Because the great ruler Cyrus freed all people in this time. Some “haft-breed Jew came back to Palestine. But they were not accepted by the Jews as full blooded Jews.
Then the remainder of His brethren
The Jews hated them. These half breed people settled in a place called Samaria.
Will return to the sons of Israel.
And were known as who?
Isaiah 40:10–11 NASB95

In the majesty of the name of the Lord His God.
The conquest of Alexander the Great in 330 B.C. not only brought the Jews under Grecian domination, but also introduced the Greek language and ideas.
And they will remain,
On the way, he planned to lay siege to the city of Jerusalem. but high priest at that time, who was a godly old man by the name of Jaddua took the sacred writings of Daniel the prophet and, accompanied by a host of other priests dressed in white garments, went forth and met Alexander some distance outside the city.
Malachi 3:1 NASB95
1 “Behold, I am going to send My messenger, and he will clear the way before Me. And the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple; and the messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight, behold, He is coming,” says the Lord of hosts.
Malachi 3:1
Because at that time He will be great
Alexander left his army and hurried to meet this body of priests. When he met them, he told the high priest that he had had a vision the night before in which God had shown him an old man, robed in a white garment, who would show him something of great significance to himself, according to the account, the high priest then opened the prophecies of Daniel and read them to Alexander.
To the ends of the earth.
He was so overwhelmed by the accuracy of this prophecy and, of course, by the fact that it spoke about him, he fell to his face and weep and he promised that he would save Jerusalem from siege and sent the high priest back with honors.
And Isaiah says
Alexander the great conquered the whole known world spreading the Greek culture then he died and his kingdom was slit into 4 as the book of Daniel prophesied.
(NASB95)
For over 100 year the Jews were able to worship freely.
10 (He will) will come with might,
Until the reign of Antiocus (Antiocus IV) of Syria saw this as an opportunity for advancement, so he took over Palestine.

Behold, His reward is with Him
He controls the Jew and wanted to destroy them their religion and their faith and many of the Hellenized Jews went along for peace sake.
(NASB95)
And His recompense before Him.
He robbed the temples and demanded that he be seen as a God.
11 Like a shepherd He will tend His flock,
He killed all the Jews that tried to stop him.
In His arm He will gather the lambs
In the temple he sacrificed pigs on God alter of incense.
And carry them in His bosom;
The sacrifice of pigs was his false roman god, Jupiter.
He will gently lead the nursing ewes.
And he forced the Jews to eat pork
M Malachi says 3:1 (NASB95)
And even tried to stop their custom of circumcision.
The Purifier
And because of the pressure many Jews fell away.
1 “Behold, I am going to send My messenger, and he will clear the way before Me. And the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple; and the messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight, behold, He is coming,” says the Lord of hosts.
But there was a group that had enough
Than later he says
There were willing to take up the faith
Malachi 4:2–5 NASB95
2 “But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings; and you will go forth and skip about like calves from the stall. 3 “You will tread down the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day which I am preparing,” says the Lord of hosts. 4 “Remember the law of Moses My servant, even the statutes and ordinances which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel. 5 “Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord.
(NASB95)
They wanted to fight for their liberty and their freedom,
And these are just a few promise of the fact that he is returning and that he will come.
2 “But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings; and you will go forth and skip about like calves from the stall.
They were tired of letting the devil drive.
3 “You will tread down the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day which I am preparing,” says the Lord of hosts.
One of the priest Mattathias Maccabeus had enough and killed one of the Syrian who tried to make him sacrifice a pig.
4 “Remember the law of Moses My servant, even the statutes and ordinances which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel.
And ran to the hill he and his son
5 “Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord.
Then they returned and led a long revolt against the Syrian and finally won the battle for his people.
And these are just a few promise of the fact that he is returning and that he will come.
And they were free and they made the temple holy again and all things almost back to normal
And after the book of Malachi stops the silent begins.
Under Maccabees and Hasmonean dynasty. Spreading teaching of unity of God, messianic hope and Scriptures.
400 years of silent
But then the Sadducees where in they were the liberal Hellenistic Jews that also sprung up during the Syrian period.
400 years of struggle and in this time of struggle there were no great prophet.
They were about the easiest path of least resistance they felt that it was fine to “go with the flow” to keep peace in Israel.
No books or words from the book.
They wanted riches and fame and felt that their obedience would guarantee this. They had great influence in the political Temple and in the Sanhedrin.
Just a struggle
The Sadducees did not believe in a literal resurrection from the dead
Just a people holding on to a word.
“sad you see”
Remember struggle till you make it.
They also refused to believe in demons or angels. They were the liberal theologians of their day.
The people struggle in silents. But in this silent’s there was hope.
Then there was the Pharisees, which also came to be a power in Jerusalem.
And because of hope there was a fight.
The Pharisees where the conservative orthodox Jews that sprang up during this period. They felt that such a compromise would anger the true God. They were strait laced, ultra conservative, biblical literalist.
In the time of Malachi the Persian ruled over the Jewish people from about 400 bc till around 330 bc.
The Pharisees were separationists, unwilling to take on either Greek culture or influence.
Because the great ruler Cyrus freed all people in this time. Some “haft-breed Jew came back to Palestine. But they were not accept by the Jews as full blooded Jews.

They set up their own way of worship.
The Pharisees mistreated the Sadducees

The conquest of Alexander the Great in 330 B.C. not only brought the Jews under Grecian domination, but also introduced the Greek language and ideas.
And this is the time in which our text picks up.

He rod the temples and demanded that he be seen as a God.
The Holy Spirit is referred to in the Gospel of John as the Paraklete (parakletos), "mediator, intercessor, helper."
He killed all the Jews that tried to stop him.
In our passage Simeon is eagerly looking forward to the time when occupied, weary Jerusalem receives her comfort and relief from the Lord, which was popularly expected to be brought about by the Messiah.
In the temple he sacrificed pigs on God alter of incense.
