Recap
Advent takes the birth of a savior and reminds us that it is the coming of a King.
It brings the weight of the redemption story into our holiday season.
Have you ever felt threatened?
Have you ever felt threatened?
Or in danger?
Almost got into a fist fight (Luke & My Response)
There are two key responses to threats: Fight or Flight.
There is a key Advent story that deals with this idea in a profound way for you and I.
Herod’s response is of great importance.
He saw it as a threat.
If we go back to last week’s scripture, we see that this response to Jesus shouldn’t have come to a surprise to Mary & Joseph:
This was just the beginning.
Every step in Jesus’ earthly ministry was met with hostility from those whose throne was being threatened.
Jesus is a threat to anyone who sits on a throne
Not just the “evil” or “sin” that might be in our lives or in our politics, but a threat to us when we decide we are in charge.
Our response is one of two things: We fight, or we fly.
We resist or we submit.
Only one seat
Only one of two people can sit on our throne.
God, or us.
Either we are being challenged by our King sitting in His rightful place, or we are being threatened by the one who belongs there.
With Jesus, there is no in between.
Challenge:
Who is sitting on your throne?
What about Jesus makes you feel uncomfortable and like fighting?
Seek ways to submit during this Advent season.
