Isaiah 6:1 ESV

In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple.

Isaiah 6:2 ESV

Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.

And one called to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!”

TRANSFORMED BY A VISION

Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar.

I. HE SEES A BIBLICAL VISION OF GOD (verses 1-4)

III. HE EXPERIENCES A CLEANSING BY GRACE (verses 6-7)

a. The Flew to him

i. Adam hid - God came to him

ii. Man, in sin and darkness and hopelessness: God came to us in Jesus Christ

iii. And God keeps coming to us…

1. He keeps pursuing the wayward

2. He keeps pursuing the struggling

3. He keeps pursuing because if He ever stopped we would all be lost to ourselves and to our sin

b. Coals on his lips

i. God touches the problem: Isaiah said – unclean lips – grace touches his sin

ii. Implication for the Saint - the Christian

1. your sins are not so powerful that they cannot be touched by the grace of God

2. your failures are not so deep that they cannot be touched by the grace of God

3. Name it…Name your sin; name your battle; name your besetting sin… GRACE CAN TOUCH US AND PURIFY YOU

1 John 1:9 ESV

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

iii. How can this be? How can it be such good news – that all of who I am and what I have done and all of my struggles can be cleansed?
