1 John 2:15-17
Love is Exclusive
The world in these verses refers to what belongs to the kingdom of darkness.
You can’t love two opposing systems just as you can’t serve two masters (Matthew 6:24).
God will not share the devotion that only belongs to Him (Isaiah 42:8).
If you’ve tasted the love of God, you cannot respond by loving the world.
Love Shapes Actions
What we love affects our desires and drives our decisions.
The lust of the flesh, eyes, and pride of life are all worldly characteristics to
keep your centered on yourself.
These worldly desires are a deception of freedom that keeps us in slavery.
Only in loving God are we truly free.
Consider your Object’s Limits
If you love the world, everything you love can be gone at a moment’s notice.
If you love the world, you will spend eternity separated from what you loved.
In loving God, the object of our affection is unchanging and eternal.
In loving God, we know we will spend eternity with what we love the most.
