Today we are going to read to help us wrap our minds around the “Why” of Jesus being born a Man.
There was a sin issue
People have had an addiction to sin since :
People have had an addiction to sin since :
19 Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, moral impurity, promiscuity, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions, 21 envy, drunkenness, carousing, and anything similar. I tell you about these things in advance—as I told you before—that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Galatians

36 And as they were saying these things, He Himself stood among them. He said to them, “Peace to you!” 37 But they were startled and terrified and thought they were seeing a ghost. 38 “Why are you troubled?” He asked them. “And why do doubts arise in your hearts? 39 Look at My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself! Touch Me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you can see I have.” 40 Having said this, He showed them His hands and feet. 41 But while they still were amazed and unbelieving because of their joy, He asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” 42 So they gave Him a piece of a broiled fish, 43 and He took it and ate in their presence.
44 Then He told them, “These are My words that I spoke to you while I was still with you—that everything written about Me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” 45 Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. 46 He also said to them, “This is what is written: The Messiah would suffer and rise from the dead the third day, 47 and repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 And look, I am sending you what My Father promised. As for you, stay in the city until you are empowered from on high.”
Luke 24:44

What does this Jesus’ resurrection story teach us?

When we read the Old Testament of the Bible, I don’t want you to think that it is out dated or irrelevant because the whole message of the Old Testament sets the stage for the birth, death, and resurrection of the New Testament Messiah.
The Law was the culmination of hundreds of different commands given throughout the first 5 books of the bible to the Israelites as they pursued to live perfect lives according to God’s commandment. Then the pharisees and Sadducees started to leverage the law to promote themselves over the people of God. The Law basically became this impossible standard of living for the people of God to try to achieve. That is why everything in the Old Testament pointed forward to the coming of the Messiah that would Fulfill the law.
became the beacon of hope for the people of God as they longed for the day that the the Suffering Servant’s sacrifice would ultimately pay the price that sin commands in the eyes of the almighty God.
The fact that we have sin in our world means that a debt is owed on our behalf. Sin is a result of the imperfection of humanity, the fallen nature of our need for self gratification.
The Law was used for guidance and to help a sinner recognize their guilt, when the Jesus came and fulfilled every single bit of the law, it was paid in full.
The Old Testament Mosaic Law then turned to Grace and forgiveness brought on by the conviction of the Holy Spirit.
6 But now we have been released from the law, since we have died to what held us, so that we may serve in the new way of the Spirit and not in the old letter of the law.
Romans 7:
So what does it look like to serve God after the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ?
30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.
31 “The second is: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other command greater than these.”
30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.
31 “The second is: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other command greater than these.”
Mark 12
Jesus transitioned law to love, in the same way he transitioned sin to salvation.
Your life have been bought with a price, the only thing that He asks in return is obedience
2. Missional Movement (v.48-49)
2. Missional Movement (v.48-49)
When Jesus died for us, He took the death that was owed to us. The only thing that he asks for in return is to be obediant to what He asks us to do:
Love God
Love Others
So what does that look like?
Love God: Give Him your whole heart every day!
Love People
18 Then Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matthew
