She was simply trying to be faithful in her walk with God.Gabriel’s greeting to Mary (v 28) and declaration of Mary (v30) = favored; grace; blessed.God’s blessings cannot rest on a person that is not walking with Him.God was fulfilling His promise of the Messiah.People had been waiting for centuries on the Messiah.

God shows that He is a keeper of His word and will fulfill it.Jesus will take the throne of David ()Jesus will reign over house of Jacob (the people of God)Jesus’ kingdom will never end

The present would be supernatural

How can this happen this way?Mary didn’t understand how this could be done because of her condition.We must not put God in the box of our abilities.God would do what no man could do.This work would be the work of God Almighty alone, and He would get all the credit for it.God had already proven His ability through Elizabeth.

The present would have to be received

Mary did not understand all of this fully.Mary submitted herself to God’s plan by faith.

= Now without faith it is impossible to please God, since the one who draws near to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

The wonderful gift of joy that is found in Jesus is not just dumped upon us.

It must be received.

We don’t have to have all the questions answered completely to benefit from this wonderful gift.

The present was meant to be shared

Mary went to visit Elizabeth and see what God had already done.

Mary’s presence along with the baby in her womb brought joy to others.

It caused Elizabeth’s unborn baby to jump for joy (v 41, 44).

It caused Elizabeth to be filled with the Holy Spirit and speak out (v 41-45).

The gift of joy that Jesus brings to those who receive Him is not meant to be hoarded.

It is meant to be shared with others so that they may experience it as well and give God the honor due Him.

Are we sharing the gift of joy that is only found in Jesus this Christmas season with others?

Conclusion

Mary and Elizabeth both experienced great joy that first Christmas.

It was the joy that the angels told the shepherds about in .

That same joy that was experienced by so many that first Christmas can be experienced by us today.

It is found in the presence of Jesus.
