When 2 Miracles meet!
Intro:
Intro:
There’s nothing more wonderful than seeing two good friends get together and share about old times!
Isn’t that special!
(slight pause)
It seems like in those types of gatherings......
........the room just fills up with joy!
(pause)
And if you could bottle it up and recreate it.................
...................I think we would!
(pause)
Because everybody wants to be happy!
(pause)
And if we could just hang out with the people that brought us joy.......
.........our lives would just be marvelous would’nt they!
(pause)
But the reality is that.......
.........we don’t get to pick out the people that bring us joy and only hang around those individuals.
(pause)
If the truth be told there are some people.......
.........that instead of bringing us joy, bring us headaches!
(pause)
And I don’t know if this has been your story.....
.......but one of the things that I have discovered is that God has placed some people in my life that I never would have picked.....
............and the amount of Joy that was produced is absolutely Unspeakably Remarkable!
(pause)
And.....
Joy - A feeling of great pleasure and happiness
.......in today’s text we see 2 cousins, Elizabeth and Mary coming together to meet.
.......and both of them have unique stories of how God has touched them
............and even though they are kindred in terms of family
............God is the one who is putting them together to produce something remarkable!
(pause)
Look at it now.....
(pause)
......because it is Elizabeth I want to look at first
According to the text.....
Elizabeth and her husband Zechariah are much older now, and her womb was barren meaning that she could not have children...
And so.....
....we are watching the biblical motif or theme of barreness in relation to Elizabeth.
......it is the same barreness that Abrham and Sarah experience that causes Sarah to laugh at God’s ability or power to make her become pregnant.
.......it is the same barreness that Hannah experiences that causes her to pray to God for a son, and Eli the prophet watching her lips move but no words coming out of her mouth.....
.........assumes that she must be a drunk woman!
(pause)
It is this Elizabeth.....
.....who is married to a Zechariah that is made to be mute and unable to speak based on his doubting the angel that tells him his wife will be pregnant with child.
(pause)
It is this very Elizabeth in my spiritual imagination.......
........that God decides is the cousin in particular that Mary could go and see after being visited by the angel!
(pause)
And the first thing that comes to mind is......
......why would God mention Elizabeth to Mary through the angel?
(pause)
And one of the reasons I believe Elizabeth is mentioned is because sometimes.....
........there’s nothing like walking up on a miracle!
(pause)
Because according to the text in verse 36......this same barren Elizabeth is now 6 months pregnant with her son who will be named John the Baptist.
(pause)
And......
.....Mary needs to see this so that her faith can understand what verse 37 shares.....
“For nothing will be impossible with God!”
(pause)
And somebody in here today........
.......is looking for joy to walk up to you
.............when you really need to be walking up on a miracle!
(pause)
And so......
Elizabeth is the first miracle I see in the text........
And she is now 6 months pregnant when she was supposed to be barren and unable to have children!
(pause)
And so of course now........
Mary is the second miracle that I see in the text.......
For it is a virgin Mary who is greeted by the angel Gabriel down in Nazareth.
And the angel tells her....
Luke 1.31-
And so.......
Mary is a woman who has never been intimate sexually with a man
......and the angel of the Lord tells her that the Holy Spirit is going to come upon her, and overshadow her
In other words.....
.......God is going to place God’s son into your womb miraculously Mary!
Mary is going to not only give birth to........
.........but raise God’s son!
(pause)
Watch this.......
.....because on one hand we have an older Elizabeth (miracle #1) who nobody ever thought would be able to physically have a baby!
.......and on the other hand we have a Mary (miracle #2) that’s physically not supposed to be pregnant yet!
(pause)
And God says in Gods divine wisdom....
“I’m going to bring 2 miracles together for a meeting to PRODUCE some unspeakable PLEASURE”
God says.....
“I’m going to FILL the room with JOY.......................with two people that nobody would have ever PICKED”
(pause)
Watch this.....
The bible says......
When these 2 miracles meet.......
and Mary welcomed Elizabeth with greetings
........Elizabeth heard Mary’s voice, and then she felt a strong vigorous stirring of the baby in her womb!
(pause)
Now the bible says that.....
