Intro: The Reason for the Season

Christmas is about the birth of Jesus, the incarnation of the Son of God. God’s will for his creation is to have a relationship with his creation for all eternity. We celebrate the giving of gifts and meals over the holiday season. The birth of Christ is God’s act of love toward his creation. The greatest gift of all is love.

God Comes into the Flesh

Matthew 1:18
Matthew 1:18 NLT
18 This is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother, Mary, was engaged to be married to Joseph. But before the marriage took place, while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit.

God’s Provision for the incarnation of Christ

God in his infinite wisdom chose Mary to be the mother of Jesus. Notice in the text Mary is engaged or betrothed to Joseph. They are not married yet. The text is clear to point out that before they were married she is found with child through the power of the Holy Spirit. Again the detail of the Holy Spirit work in conceiving the baby.
It was the work of the Holy Spirit in the brith of Christ.
God chose Mary who is engaged to Joseph.
God had a plan from beginning.

Joseph the son of David and righteous

Matthew 1:19
Matthew 1:19–21 NLT
19 Joseph, to whom she was engaged, was a righteous man and did not want to disgrace her publicly, so he decided to break the engagement quietly. 20 As he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. “Joseph, son of David,” the angel said, “do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit. 21 And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”

Character of Joseph

Joseph is a righteous man.
Joseph is engaged to Mary.
Joseph is of the lineage of David.

God’s instructions for Joseph

od’s instructions for Joseoph

God is With Us, a Savior is born

God’s plan for our salvation

God has worked out the plan for the Messiah to come to be King of Israel through the lineage of David and born of the Virgin as the prophets told.
Matthew 1:22–23 NLT
22 All of this occurred to fulfill the Lord’s message through his prophet: 23 “Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’ ”
Matthew 1:22-
Immanuel means “God is with us.”
This is fulfillment of the prophets.
says:
Isaiah 7:14 NLT
14 All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’).

God’s plan was in the beginning

God planned for the world’s redemption to be born of the woman.
Genesis
Genesis 3:15 NLT
15 And I will cause hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.”
God has brought forth this child 42 generations down from David legally and binding though the marriage of Joseph and Mary.
