The Light of the World

Introduction

Prior to Jesus coming there were nearly 400 years of time that God had not given any new revelation to His people. Malachi had written his prophecy and then it was as though God had retreated into silence.

This period was a period of darkness that would be broken by the birth of the savior.

Jesus birth would bring new light into the world as He grew to maturity and began His earthly ministry.

Jesus came as a light to:

Dispel the Darkness ( )

Jesus Christ came to a world in darkness to bring light that would reveal the condition of mankind.

Man had grown accustomed to darkness and the cover it provided for their wicked deeds.

When Jesus Christ arrived in the world light was come into the world and this light would reveal the sinful state of mankind.

The problem was that so many rejected the light and preferred to continue in darkness.

The same is true today, many do not come to the light for fear of what it may reveal. Many are quite comfortable in darkness continuing without a thought of the eternal condemnation that awaits them.

It is Satan’s desire to keep mankind in darkness unaware of the condemnation that awaits them, yet Jesus came as a light into the world to dispel the darkness bringing light to all mankind.

Those men and women who seek the truth will seek out the light so that they may find out their true condition.

Do not be content living in darkness, come into the light of Jesus Christ.

Deliver Eternal Life ( )

Jesus did not come merely to reveal our sinful condition but also to deliver eternal life to all who would believe!

Light in nature is a life giving force. Jesus Christ came to bring us out of darkness and into the light of life!

The wonderful news is that we need not continue to abide in darkness. We can have the light of life by trusting in Jesus Christ.

Yet if you reject the light of the world you will continue in spiritual darkness to eternal condemnation.

It is Jesus alone who can bring men out of darkness and can give them the light of life. He alone can bring to life that which is “dead in trespasses and sins” ()

Eternal life is available to all who will come to the light and believe on Him.

Disperse His Light to All Who Believe ( , )

Christ brings light to all men but only some will receive that light into themselves.

Jesus Christ is the one and only light of the world. He came as that light into the world. After His ascension back to the father He would once again come into the world but this time as the Holy Spirit who indwells every believer.

Those who receive the light in turn are tasked with being the lights of the world in Christ’s absence.

- among whom ye shine as lights

- were darkness now are ye light in the Lord

All who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, now have the responsibility to be the lights in this dark world.

We are living in dark days but the light of the world may still shine through the lives of every Christian as we shew forth Jesus Christ and the gospel in our daily lives.

You and I are tasked with allowing the light of the world to shine in and through us

There is coming a day when those who have received the light of the world will dwell for all eternity in the glory of HIS light!
