9 And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened.
9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14 Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, Good will toward men.
luke 2:9-14
And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. 10Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 11For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”
13And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
14 “Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”
The first response to the glory of God here was fear but the angel said I bring you good new great joy.
Why great joy?
Emmanuel has come to us!
Why was there fear?
Because was a supernatural thing. It was out of the realm of possibility and reality.
C.S. Lewis once said,
Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition, when infinite joy is offered to us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in the slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.
The breathtaking thing is that Jesus really came to this earth.
The prophesied one came down from heaven and encountered
Its in the place of his presence where his glory is that we are fill with Joy’
:
This your presence there is fullness of JOY..
I bring you good tidings of great joy, which will be to all people.
Why?
4 But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law,
(NASB95)
we will read the rest after while.
4 But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law,
we will read the rest after while.
When the fullness of time came God sent his son.
Speaking of God the father.
Just for a moment let me preach about the father
There is a street that leads the Father’s house and that street’s name is Jesus Christ.
“I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” (
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
)
)
The way to the Father is found in His Son Jesus and His desire to make us one with Him and the Father.
When you come to Jesus not only do you receive a Savior, you get the opportunity of a lifetime.
You receive the world’s greatest Father
This is good news
The Father in heaven loves you so much that He sent His Son to gain sons.
44 “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day.
)
)
It’s a passionate and intense love.
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son.”
16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
)
)
It’s not God so loved the world He thought very highly of them, or God so loved the world that He sent them a blessing.
No.
God so loved the world He expressed it.
He looked all over heaven to find the thing
He loved the most to express His love for His creation.
He sent the most precious and important thing in all of heaven to prove His undying love for us and that is His Son.
The Son of God became the Son of Man to make man become sons of God.
Prove it pastor look back at
4 But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law,
5 so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.
6 Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!”
7 Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.
(NASB95)
This news sounds wonderful matter fact all call him name wonderful

Look at
1 When the Lord brought back the captive ones of Zion, We were like those who dream.
2 Then our mouth was filled with laughter And our tongue with joyful shouting; Then they said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.”
3 The Lord has done great things for us; We are glad.
4 Restore our captivity, O Lord, As the streams in the South.
5 Those who sow in tears shall reap with joyful shouting.
6 He who goes to and fro weeping, carrying his bag of seed, Shall indeed come again with a shout of joy, bringing his sheaves with him.
ps 126:1-6

:2-
When the Lord changed Zion’s circumstances for the better (or restored Zion), it was like we had been dreaming.
2 Our mouths were suddenly filled with laughter; our tongues were filled with joyful shouts. It was even said, at that time, among the nations,
“The Lord has done great things for them!”
3 Yes, the Lord has done great things for us, and we are overjoyed.
4 Lord, change our circumstances for the better (or restore our fortunes),
like dry streams in the desert waste!
5 Let those who plant with tears
reap the harvest with joyful shouts.
6 Let those who go out,
crying and carrying their seed,
come home with joyful shouts, carrying bundles of grain!
Charles Spurgeon was once criticized for putting too much laughter into his sermons. “Frivolous and lacking gravity” it was said. His reply to the woman who had accosted him was classic: “My good lady, if you only knew how much I restrain myself.”
Look at what God’s intervention does…
It was like we where dreaming… our mouths were filled with laughter
Our tongues with joyful shouts
3 The Lord has done great things for us; We are glad.
4 Restore our captivity, O Lord, As the streams in the South.
5 Those who sow in tears shall reap with joyful shouting.
6 He who goes to and fro weeping, carrying his bag of seed, Shall indeed come again with a shout of joy, bringing his sheaves with him.
God intervention produced joy

like dry streams in the desert waste!

When Jesus came to the earth
Hey and it ok to laugh
This psalm shows us not only that “joy” and God go together but also God and “laughter”.
I have a friend that once said this
When the psalm refers to joy here:
· It’s not a joy of personality or mood, or a joy of “faking it”.
· It isn’t trying to force joy on a friend who just lost their job by saying, “rejoice in the Lord always”…
· To which the reply might be, “Let me punch you in the face and see how much rejoicing you’re doing then.”
· And it isn’t the deep Christian joy that is soooo deep that no one on else on earth knows you have it.
· This joy is a result of being “restored” by God.
· A joy of being happy because of what God has done for you.
Jesus came to restore
21 “She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”
(NASB95)
21 “She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”
10 “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
-- “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save” that” which was lost.”
19 For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him,
20 and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven.
21 And although you were formerly alienated and hostile in mind, engaged in evil deeds,
22 yet He has now reconciled you in His fleshly body through death, in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach—
23 if indeed you continue in the faith firmly established and steadfast, and not moved away from the hope of the gospel that you have heard, which was proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, was made a minister.
To reconcile to restore
For it was the Father's good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him, 20 and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven. 21 And although you were formerly alienated and hostile in mind, engaged in evil deeds, 22 yet He has now reconciled you in His fleshly body through death, in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach
To reconcile to restore
And this produces joy
Notice the connection between vs. 1 and vs. 4.
· Vs. 1 says, “When the Lord restored” or “When God restored.” Vs. 4 prays, “Restore our fortunes, O Lord” or “Please God restore.”
· So the first part of the psalm is the dream, what happened when God restored.
· The second part of the psalm is how to live the dream, asking God to restore your fortunes.
Being Restored
“Fortune” here doesn’t mean luck or chance.
· It’s not saying, “I’ve been playing the lottery and finally I got lucky.”
· The word “fortune” here parallels the word “restore”.
· So “When the Lord restored our fortunes,” means something like “When God restored us to a restored situation.”
· We find the same thing in vs. 4, “Restore our fortunes, O Lord (or change our circumstances for the better),” meaning, “Restore us to this restored situation, O Lord.”
Think about mary and joseph
They have a dream.
Then the angel come no longer is it a dream. They began to live the dream.
