“And He will be called...”

Today we light the fourth candle of the advent season
The first candle symbolizes hope and is called the "Prophet’s Candle." The prophets of the Old Testament, especially Isaiah, waited in hope for the Messiah’s arrival.
The second candle represents faith and is called "Bethlehem’s Candle." Micah had foretold that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem, which is also the birthplace of King David.
The third candle symbolizes joy and is called the "Shepherd’s Candle." In the good news will cause great joy. Now traditionally the color rose or pink points to joy.
Now the third candle symbolizes joy and is called the "Shepherd’s Candle." In the good news will cause great joy. Now traditionally the color rose or pink points to joy.
Now the fourth candle represents peace and is called the "Angel’s Candle." The angels announced that Jesus came to bring peace--He came to bring people close to God and to each other again.
Luke 2:14 NIV84
14 “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.”
Light candles and pray Today is the last week in our sermon series

“And he will be called...”

“And He will be called...

Wonderful CounselorWonderful being Supernatural, beyond comprehension, Counselor bing one that gives advice, direction, instruction and comfort.

Wonderful Counselor

His Counsel ie His Word (The Bible), more than a suggestion Now today we move to the next description of character, the next name listed that He will be called,

Mighty God - El Gibbor

He is my Strong mighty powerful heroic GodJesus our Mighty God who supplies for our greatest need, has always been within reach at the moment of your greatest need. And He Always Has been and always will be. Which leads us right into todays focus

Everlasting Father

Jesus is the Father of Eternity
Jesus reveals the foreverness of the fatherly heart of God
Today lines up with the forth candle that we lit,

Prince of Peace

Isaiah 8:19–9:7 NIV84
19 When men tell you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living? 20 To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn. 21 Distressed and hungry, they will roam through the land; when they are famished, they will become enraged and, looking upward, will curse their king and their God. 22 Then they will look toward the earth and see only distress and darkness and fearful gloom, and they will be thrust into utter darkness. 1 Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress. In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the Gentiles, by the way of the sea, along the Jordan— 2 The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned. 3 You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest, as men rejoice when dividing the plunder. 4 For as in the day of Midian’s defeat, you have shattered the yoke that burdens them, the bar across their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor. 5 Every warrior’s boot used in battle and every garment rolled in blood will be destined for burning, will be fuel for the fire. 6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.
Isaiah 8:19-9:7
Look at how the first section of what we just read
Isaiah 8:19 NIV84
19 When men tell you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living?
How bad must life be for the people of Northern Israel at this time that foolish counsel like the consulting of fortune tellers, physics, mediums, is something they would have to be corrected on.
The lack of peace lead to a lack of hope, a demise of faith, a lose of joy, and here they are in need of a redeemer, a Messiah, A King, A Savour.
And this is just waht Isaiah prophesies to when he says the famous verses,
Isaiah 9:6–7 NIV84
6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.
Now Christmas is just a couple days away, and there are undoubtedly some here this morning hoping the preacher preaches as fast as he did last week, bc well the list is not complete. Shopping is still to be done.
Now there are probably also some here who not only is the list not complete, but the list hasn't been decided on. I mean what do you get someone who has all that they need?
Oh man those are the hardest to give to....
Now ask that to a dr. What do you give someone who has everything and the answer is not to hard.... amoxycillin
But that doesnt’ wrap nicely under the tree.
But think about it for just a moment, not what you want, but this year, this coming year what do you need in life?
All that is needed can be found in the Wonderful Councillor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
In discovering who He is in each of these different aspects, we are discovering that we can turn to Him in times of need for things that align with these aspects of His character.
So that leaves us with discovering Him as our Prince of Peace.
This term Prince speaks to the leadership, the official, captain, the commander, the Kingly rule of this Child born Son Given.
In fact in all areas;
Wonderful Counselor
Mighty God
Everlasting Father
Prince of Peace
The Kingly Ruler aspect is important.
And for us now, it’s up to us to give Him the position of Kingly Ruler in our lives. However there will come a day,
Isaiah 45:23 NIV84
23 By myself I have sworn, my mouth has uttered in all integrity a word that will not be revoked: Before me every knee will bow; by me every tongue will swear.
Isaiah 45:
Romans 14:
Romans 14:11 NIV84
11 It is written: “ ‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will confess to God.’ ”
Philippians 2:6–11 NIV84
6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, 7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death— even death on a cross! 9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Phil. 2:6-
Revelation 5:13 NIV84
13 Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing: “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!”
Come Now is the time to worship - Brian Doerksen
One day every Tongue will confess You are God One day every knee will bow Still the greatest treasure Remains for those Who gladly choose You now
Ps 95:1-6
Psalm 95:1–6 NIV84
1 Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. 2 Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. 3 For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods. 4 In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him. 5 The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. 6 Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;
See yes one day every knee will bow every tongue confess. But don’t wait till the day you knee is forced to bend by the realization of His glory when it’s too late.
The greatest treasure Remains for those who gladly choose Him now, who confess Him as Lord now, who call upon the name of the Lord now.
What does that mean call upon the name of the Lord and be saved.
Romans 10:13–15 NIV84
13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” 14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? 15 And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”
Romans 10:
Call on is to recognize Him as, as what? As Lord - ruler, supreme authority
Romans 10:9 NIV84
9 That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Statement of truth for you, that He is your Lord.
What happens - saved.... whats that
John 3:16 NIV84
16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Romans 6:23 NIV84
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Life in through and with Jesus. Relationship with the creator now and forever more....
For who?
For those who recognize and submit to His Kingly Rule now. Who see Him as King, commander, chief, leader, official, captan, Prince.
Those who are not in relationship with Him always seem to blame Him when the chaos collides with life, wondering where the peace is, but the Peace, true peace, that those outside of relationship with Him can never fully fathom, only comes when He is recognized as the Prince of Peace during this life.
Chaos Collides with life, it happens, the phone rings and the news is given, the sound blasts and everything changes, the door closes and who was leaving is gone, Chaos collides with life. Hurt happens, but so does healing, and so does hope.
See for those in relationship with God having submitted to His Kingly Rule, as Prince of Peace, in the moments where the chaos collides with life there is a peace that the world cannot understand.
But
1 Corinthians 2:14 NIV84
14 The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.
John 14:17 NIV84
17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.
The world can’t get it, until they accept Him they cant fully get it, see, the peace that the believer can have when the Chaos Collides with life it doesnt compute
Philippians 4:7 NIV84
7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Transcends understanding, beyond understanding, its the Peace that just doesn’t make sense that God guards our minds and hearts with.
If He has been given the Kingly position in your life.
Now again rember that the Bible is so deep that its like an onion the size of a basketball, there are layers and layers yet its simple and to teh point God Loves you, and wants to communicate with you.
But lets look are some of the layers of this Prince of Peace
Romans 3:1 NIV84
1 What advantage, then, is there in being a Jew, or what value is there in circumcision?
Jesus is the Prince that creates peace between Jew and Gentile
Ephesians 2:14 NIV84
14 For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility,
Jesus is the Prince that creates peace between Jew and Gentile
Jesus is the Prince that creates peace between God and man
Ephesians 2:14 NIV84
14 For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility,
Colossians 1:17–22 NIV84
17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. 21 Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. 22 But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation—
Romans 5:1 NIV84
1 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
Jesus is the Prince that creates peace between God and man
Jesus is the Prince that creates peace between God and man
Peel back yet another layer and look at jus the word peace
Peace in Hebrew implies prosperity as well as tranquillity.
In the Tyndale Bible dictionary it says of Shalom this:
“Shalom, the most prominent OT term for “peace,” held a wide range of connotations (wholeness, health, security, well-being, and salvation) and could apply to an equally wide range of contexts: the state of the individual, the relationship of person to person, or nation to nation, and the relationship of God and people (; ).
The presence of shalom in any of these contexts was not considered ultimately as the outcome of human endeavor but as a gift or blessing of God.”
Peace as in Shalom is not merited or achieved by human efforts, but a gift from God.
For unto us a child is born a Son is given…
Jesus was born, and through His birth, life, death and resurrection, has ushered in an ever increasing Peace , nothing missing nothing broken, for those in covenant relationship with Him, for those under His Kingly rule.
See Peace, Shalom is a gift that has been already given
Luke 2:14 NIV84
14 “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.”
luke 2
His favor rests on those in Covenant with him, on Those that are in relationship with, on those under His kingly rule.
It’s been given to us and we need to be reminded to walk in it regularly.
See Paul wasn't just using it in a greeting as something nice and warm to say.
He was reminding the reader that peace was no longer something simply hoped for, no Paul reminds the reader of the messianic gifts available now through Christ. Nothing missing Nothing broken, Shalom in an ever increasing measure now.
it is no longer a mere wish for peace that Paul extends to his readers but is a reminder of the messianic gifts available in the present time through Christ to the man of faith.
1 Corinthians 1:3 NIV84
3 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 1:2 NIV84

Revelation 1:4 NIV84

The Prince of Peace has come that He might bring Peace to you even when Chaos Collides with life.
Walk in it, claim it, call on it, set you mind on the Peace of God.
How?
Isaiah 26:1-3
Isaiah 26:1–3 NIV84
1 In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah: We have a strong city; God makes salvation its walls and ramparts. 2 Open the gates that the righteous nation may enter, the nation that keeps faith. 3 You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.
Perfect peace - increasing Shalom - nothing missing nothing broken, success and victory
By keeping your mind steadfast and trusting in Him.
Steadfast - firmly founded in and on God.
Trusting in Him.
But keeping your mind steadfast.
Oh the word mind here is not the typical OT word for mind, this occurrence carries a heavy sense of “Creative Imagination”
The Creative Plans that are rooted and grounded in God will be covered in Peace.
Live for Him in Him and stay grounded to Him and trusting Him, and your creative imaginative ways of living for Him will be covered in Peace.
See ministry should be creative, not cookie cutter, should be fresh not dusty, and as we stay creative in our planes in Him, the ministry will be covered in Shalom - victory!
BUt in the victory dont forget where the peace comes from , where the Shalom comes from
Isaiah 26:12 NIV84
12 Lord, you establish peace for us; all that we have accomplished you have done for us.
Is26:
What we accomplish is only by His enabling and doing.
Yet this still doesn't fully answer the how to experience the Peace of God, this Peace from the Prince of Peace.
Well the answer to that is the same as the answer to how to encounter and experience Him in any of the names we have looked at
Wonderful Counselor
Mighty God
Everlasting Father
Prince of Peace.
we are given the key to unwrapping this gift in our main passage
Isaiah 9:6 NIV84
6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Did you see the Key?
And He Will Be Called...
Of course it refers to his description, what He will be know for
But read it again, say it our lour, and He will be called
Psalm 4:3 NIV84
3 Know that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself; the Lord will hear when I call to him.
Psalm 18:6 NIV84
6 In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.
Matthew 7:7 NIV84
7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
Romans 10:13 NIV84
13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Need Him as Wonderful Counselor
And He will be Called, Call on Him, Call on wonderful Counselor
Need Him as Mighty God
And He will be Called, Call on Him, Call on Mighty God
Need Him as Everlasting Father
And He will be Called, Call on Him, Call on everlasting Father
