A. Illiatration about a Doctor
B. If we don’t change through preaching we are no different than this Doctor
C. Christians need to listen and change through the preaching of the word
D. Transition
1 I solemnly charge you before God and Christ Jesus, who is going to judge the living and the dead, and because of his appearing and his kingdom: 2 Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; rebuke, correct, and encourage with great patience and teaching. 3 For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, will multiply teachers for themselves because they have an itch to hear what they want to hear. 4 They will turn away from hearing the truth and will turn aside to myths. 5 But as for you, exercise self-control in everything, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. 6 For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time for my departure is close. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 There is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that day, and not only to me, but to all those who have loved his appearing. 9 Make every effort to come to me soon,

The Coming Time V 3-4)
3 For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, will multiply teachers for themselves because they have an itch to hear what they want to hear. 4 They will turn away from hearing the truth and will turn aside to myths.
A. Some will...
1. Some will not endure sound teaching
2. Some will accumulate teachers who will tell them what they want to hear
3. Some will turn from truth and turn to myths
Does this sound filmiliar?
This is why the understanding and preparation of the word of God is so important. if we do not take the word of God seriously, we will spout heresy.
B. Have students give some examples of things that can happen if we do not study the word..
1. Open ended
2. some say today “I don’t need training I am just called to preach”
a. wise man once said if I had three years to serve the Lord I would spend the first two preparing
3. Others say scholarship is not important I’m just going to do What the spirit tells me
a. if we do not spend time studying the word of God we will commit several dangerous errors.
It is the responsibility of every Christian to study the Word weather or not they are pastors
11 The people here were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, since they received the word with eagerness and examined the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.
C. What does it mean to preach exegetically?
1. To expose the text

We need to understand it is the word of God speaking not the speaker
We need to let the Word of God shape us
