I. What You Are to Tell
I. What You Are to Tell
A. A Story of Personal Experience
1. Not preaching
2. Not what great things you have read
3. Not what things you have accomplished
4. Not even what great things God has done for someone else (although you may if you wish and none hinder you)
5. But what God has done for YOU!
a. A story of personal experience presupposes that you must have personally experienced something
B. A Story of Free Grace
1. Adding nothing of your merit
2. Dwell upon the power of the creature but upon the power and grace of the Creator
C. Told from a Grateful Person
1. Can you imagine how grateful this man was?
2. Many of us tell of Free Grace, but tell it from an arrogant perspective (of course God would save me)
3. While they may think it little what God has done for you, you need to explain that it was not little to you!
a. Do you think it a small thing which Jesus done for this man?
b. Do you think it a small thing that I have lost the burden from my back? That I have had my sight restored? My life resurrected?
c. Telling them how you suffered under the burden of sin… do you remember the conviction the condemnation that you felt?
II. Why You Are To Tell It
II. Why You Are To Tell It
A. For the Master’s Sake
1. Do you love Him?
a. Then should He not receive glory from you lips in the midst of others that you love?
b. Would you think it strange to speak highly of your children or spouse in front of others?
c. Would you not tell how you wife fixed you a lovely breakfast or how your kids took over the chores for a day? Hasn’t Christ done greater?
B. To Make Their Hearts Glad
1. If they truly love you, will they not be ready to rejoice with you over what Jesus has done for you?
a. Can you imagine when this poor demonic possessed man went home free and clear of that presence. What rejoicing and what shouting must have taken place.
b. Was your condition any less than his?
i. If you family doesn’t understand this then you must show them how you actually were and what God has really free’d you from
c. The evil spirit now gone – not what he once was, no longer to live among the tombs, but returned in his right mind to the land of the living
C. Well you say, their hearts will not be glad because they are sinners themselves
1. Then do they not need to hear all the more what God has done for you in Christ by free grace
2. If they are so bad, then they need salvation and who can tell if you have come to them for such a time!
III. How It Should Be Told
III. How It Should Be Told
A. Truthfully
1. Do not embellish for effect, the Holy Spirit is sufficient to carry God’s work to their hearts
B. Humbly
C. Earnestly
1. Never speak of the things of God flippantly or jokingly.
2. This is salvation, eternal destinies are what’s at stake. Be earnest, sober, sincere…
D. After being with God that day.
1. Do nothing without being in the presence of God.
