Hope in His Promise

Romans 5:1–8 NIV84

1 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. 6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

1. Jesus is the reason for our peace

We have peace with God through Jesus

This time of year many look for gifts to bring them joy

Jesus is the reason for our joy

People need to know that Jesus is the reason for joy, a gift will never be able to bring peace, joy, happiness, or the such, at least, not lasting peace. Only through Jesus do we have peace

Peace describes wellbeing, prosperity, safety from harm, deliverance from enemies. It is much more than just absence of conflict. It is being content.

2. We have a guaranteed promise

If God said it, He will fulfill it

The promise will come to those who don’t lose hope in waiting

Waiting is the biggest obstacle to our Hope

God speaks things that are not as though they were

3. Hope is the key to access the promise

Hope is focused on the future

If you are trying to obtain the promise based on your current condition, you will lose hope

God made the promise before you did anything right or wrong

The Promise is bigger than your mistakes

Hope will get you through the mistakes and into the Promise

4. We rejoice in Hope

We have to learn to rejoice in our suffering

We suffer because what is coming is well worth the pain

The pain reveals the promise

Suffering produces perseverance

Perseverance helps you stay the course

Perseverance does not give up when the gift is not received

Perseverance produces character

Before you get the promise, your character has to be developed

Character is who you are when no one is looking

Character will help you keep the promise

God has good plans for you

5. Our Hope is assured

This Hope will not disappoint you

The suffering will be worth it

The pain will be worth it

The wait will be worth it

This Hope is certain

If you don’t see it, Hope can bring it to existence

Hope gives you direction

Hope give you purpose

Hope lets you know you are still among the living

The promise is coming

Even in our messed up situation, The Promise is Coming

Double is Coming
