Christmas Eve 2019
Welcome
I hope everyone had a great do so far and is ready to celebrate Christmas tomorrow
As I drove to work and I listen to Chuck Swindoll and he shared a story and I knew it was going to be in this service
Before we get to that story I want you know what we celebrate tomorrow
We are celebrating our Saviors birth
Swindoll’s story is
During World War II in England there was stationed b17 bombers
And on one particular mission a chaplain decided to fly with them
During the flight and in between the war fighting the chaplain uses the on board microphone to let the entire plane know that God is with them
The chaplain encourages them that the God of the universe is in the plane with them
Don’t forget that there are people manning and gun stations at the rear of the plane while this is all going on
And from the rear of the plane the rear Gunner gets on the microphone for the entire plane and explains to the chaplain that God may be up there with them but he is not in the back of the plane with him
At that moment a shell was shot at the plane from the ground below
it hit the plane going through the fuselage and exiting the top of the plane it did not explode
it did leave a hole in the plane and it left shrapnel in the plane
It just so happened that it hit the plane right in front of the rear Gunner
At this time the rear Gunner is as white as white can be
He takes a moment to collect himself and to collect his thoughts and then gets on the microphone and explains to everyone listening that God just stepped in
6 While they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth. 7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
Church God just stepped in
Praise the Lord
In the story of creation we see priests reminding us that God is with the Israelites, and that God is with them and to be encouraged that God will save them
And we can see through scripture that it was difficult for them, and a lot of their difficulties were brought on by themselves
But just like the story from the B17
God just stepped in
We read about God stepping into physical creation in
Praise the Lord
We talked about it Sunday but do you want to know why Jesus just stepped in?
Because it was at that appointed time and those appointed people
It was God’s plan all along to step into creation for the purpose of saving it
That is why we celebrate Christmas
Because it brought Salvation to the earth
Christmas is most defiantly now about the presents you can buy but it is about the one present you cannot buy or earn
Christmas is all about salvation
10 “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.
Jesus came so that you and I would have life
We told the TNT kids that sin leads to death and Jesus leads to life
Jesus came for the sole purpose of giving us life and saving us from death
That is what we are celebrating is Salvation stepping down from heaven and into creation so that you and I can have life
You and I don’t have to die because of our sin and we don’t have to live under sin’s control anymore
All because Jesus stepped in!
We also see Jesus tell us in Luke
10 “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
Jesus tells us that He came to find those of us who were lost
Praise the Lord because I was lost once, I know you were lost once and Jesus came to find you and I
Jesus came so that you and I would be heirs to the promise of salvation
Jesus came to save us from our sin
That is what you and I are celebrating is that Jesus came to save you and I
And church if you and I are saved
Meaning if you and I have accepted the free gift of salvation given to us by Jesus dying and raising from the grave
9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.
,
13 for “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
If we have done that church
then you have the Holy Spirt dwelling inside you and the light of the world dwelling inside you
Church we are to proclaim Jesus anywhere and everywhere we do
16 “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
you and I are to let our lights shine in such a way that people run to Jesus
So this evening we are going to take the light of Jesus and let it shine
