1 Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. 3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, 4 having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.
18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. 19 And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. 20 But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:
23 “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
and they shall call his name Immanuel”
(which means, God with us). 24 When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, 25 but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus.
17 Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.
9 But we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
14 Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.
heb 2:
Visit of the Wise Men (Magi)
Visit of the Wise Men (Magi)
1 Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, 2 saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”
Matt 2:1-
5 They told him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for so it is written by the prophet: 6 “ ‘And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’ ”
matt 2:5
9 After listening to the king, they went on their way. And behold, the star that they had seen when it rose went before them until it came to rest over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy.
11 And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.
Matt 2:11-

Welcome/Intro - Jesus was born
- Visiting the King of Kings
Being drawn to the King by a star
not even knowing why, but being guided by something
this is a picture of all of us whether we realize it or not
to gaze upon the King in Humility
Jesus was teh Baby King -
Kids what do for a king?
listen to him, obey what he says.
But there is only one King we worship - Jesus.
- Who was this child? — the identity of Jesus
Surely that would have asked who is this child, how can he be a king?
What an odd thing, these two poor parents giving birth to the king.
Tells us the story.
Kids you love stories?
Jesus was born as a miracle?
Kids do you know what a miracle is? tell your neighbor
Jesus was made unlike any other human being.
He was made by God’s spirit. He was the first to be born of the spirit and of a person.
wow!!!
What does this mean?
- We need to be born as Jesus was.
Two weeks ago, we talked about Jesus being the author, creator the forerunner - or someone who goes first.
When Jesus grew up he began to teach people about who God was and what the truth was.
One of the things he taught is we to have to be born of the spirit.
- hard to understand
John asks how can this be possible?
Jesus tells him it is through his life and death.
B/c Jesus lived perfectly, and died the death for all the wrong things you and I ever did. He paid the punishment, but the God raised him up from the dead and he defeated the wrong things in us and made a way for us to be born of His spirit.
That’s the great gift of Christmas.
jesus came to die, and rise from death, so that we could truly live as he does.
What’s required?
Believe in Him with all of your heart! And you will be saved.
Jesus the author/foreunner - being born of the Spirit and Flesh — thus fully human, fully divine.
We too need to be born of the Spirit - to be made alive like him.
Possible through the Cross — atonement
